Help w mashed potatoe portion size?

I need help with what woud be a portion size for mashed potatoes. I normally use a cup, I use 4 medium sized potatoes 4 tbsp butter and !/2 cup milk. On my recipe thing I put it as 3 servings. Plz Help!

If you normally use a cup how many serving does that make? I generally use a 1/2 cup and get five to six portions.... Not sure if this helps or not.

I make it from 2 potato which is middle sized and only 1 small spoon of butter bit of milk 2% fat maybe 2-3 table spoon and salt sometimes garlic. This is enough for me usually to eat lunch For dinner I always eat veggies.

I use a cup and I say it makes 3 servings just to give me some room for error I have a family of 4 that I cook for. I have not really measured how much it is all together because my husband would think Im a loon.
