Changing numbers & attitudes

It's great to see those BIG numbers changing - at my heaviest it was 17 stone ( well nearly 18!) In January when I started this journey it was the 16's, then the 15's have gone and now the 14's are just holding on - 2lbs to go and I will be in the 13's. ( And this week I left the 200's(lbs) behind and started looking at 100's!
When you look and realise you have 6 stone to lose it almost seems impossible - it's such a lot of weight to deal with isn't it? but now I am close to only having 2 stone to lose it seems very possible - the worst has been done!
So if your out there with that big number hanging over you please don't give up - it can be done. I know it seems such a lot to deal with but when it starts to go it really is the best feeling. I feel so much better now in health and myself.
My only regret is why didn't I do it sooner? There has been no drastic diet or excessive exercise - simply I have learnt moderation. I do believe that you have to be 'ready', something clicked and I realised that I had to change my habits - sadly I realised for the last 10 years I was 'ignoring' my weight .
The other thing I have found interesting is peoples reactions to you losing weight. I have found that those closest to me haven't said much about the change in me yet other people( more people I know rather than freinds) are more likely to come up and say god you look great, you've lost weight etc etc - I have got some great freinds and a wonderful husband who has been very supportive and encouarging (thankgod) but there have been suprises with some people who just don't comment - why? Are they embarrased to mention my weight? is it the fact that by saying god you've lost weight that they feel they are saying god you were fat before?! Who is more likely to say something - males or females?
I was very happy tonight to have a conversation with my sons TaeKwondo teacher ( male 50+) who asked me if I had been working out and said I look great - now that was one of my favourite compliments!
Anyway I have rambled on enough, I wish all of you out there on your journey the best of luck and hope you can achieve your goals xx

I've noticed the same thing - the people closest to me didn't say much through my weight loss but the acquaintances did. I think part of it is that the friends and family see you more often so don't notice the changes. I've also noticed that now that I'm actually 'normal' (BMI wise) instead of overweight or obese, I get alot more comments and compliments. I've also noticed that it's not always easy to see weight loss in someone who's obese until they lose quite a bit. I had lost at least 50 pounds before anyone commented. Maybe it just means that others aren't paying as much notice to us and our size as we think they are!0

Out of interest, what height are you? It seems we have roughly the same goals - your ticker says 83lb total loss, and mine is 82lb!
I started at 17,4 and am now at 16,5
Can I ask when you started, and how long this has taken you? I feel like I'm not doing as well as I perhaps could, but I didnt have too much faith in myself when I first started, so just ate a few les calories and did only half hour at the gym. Now I am feeling great in terms of fitness, and starting to focus more on weight loss.0 -
Well done, I started at 16,3 last jan took me a whole year though to motivate myself into deciding that I had to something about it which is where mfp comes in and since jan I've lost just over 3 stone. Most people have noticed but get the most compliments from people I don't see very often. All except one friend who is very much larger than me have said something about it though. :-)
What matters to me most is that I have noticed - from a size 20/22 bumto a 14 and I feel soooooo much fitter!!!0 -
I am 5'11. Well done on your loss so far too.
I started Jan 4th this year - although I had managed to lose some weight last year without really trying! I have been averaging 2lbs loss a week (36lbs lost so far since Jan) purely by cutting down on portions, cutting out excess treats and keeping off the wine! But I feel the thing that is really working for me is excercise. I go to the gym 3 times a week - Cardio for 30-40 mins then weights 20-30 mins. This combo seems to be doing the trick - I still eat what I want but in moderation. My intention is this is for life - no diets , nothing drastic. I honestly believe it's a lifestyle I can keep up and maintain. I am hoping that by christmas I will be at a happy weight - my 12 stone goal is based on when I last remember being at a happy weight - who knows as I get closer to that what I will think - anything has got to be better than 17'12 ! ( my heaviest) Feel free to add me - may need a kick up the butt in the next few months - big holiday and birthday looming!Out of interest, what height are you? Great stuff!!! You have done so well this year -you must be feeling fantastic! The clothes shopping is still a bit of a shocker for me - can't remember the last time I was trying on size 16's!! Costing me a fortune mind getting ready for my holiday - and having to buy things that I can slim into - they need to fit me when I shrink more!! Haven't been interested in clothes for years - probably because didn't have such a choice and it all looked cack anyway....Well done, I started at 16,3 last jan took me a whole year though to motivate myself into deciding that I had to something about it which is where mfp comes in and since jan I've lost just over 3 stone.
