Ok guys. This week is crazy busy with my college graduation, mother's day, and our anniversary. My husband is smart and wants to get something he knows I REALLY want and will USE!!! So we are gonna do it but I want to get a really nice HRM and am wondering for those of you that have them or have had them...what are the pro's and con's for the bodymedia and the bodybugg??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

they are essentially the same thing. Bodybugg is actually made by bodymedia - i found this out when i bought a bodybugg on ebay and got a bodymedia instead. They work on different online programs to log ur food. I think the marketing difference was bodybugg was to the 24 hour fitness crowd and the bodymedia for obesity reduction. same thing. personally i like the bodybugg and the myapex.com site was really good.0

I believe they are the same thing. At least on my Bodybugg, it also says body media but my bodybugg is almost 2 years old so keep that in mind.
Bodybugg Pros:
1) calculates calories burned in a 24 hr period (as long as you wear it) Great motivation for me!
2) stays charged for about a week or more at a time ( easy to charge over night while you sleep)
3) tells you how many steps you have taken during the day ( goal is 10,000 )
4) easy download from body bugg to apex website with wireless usb ( you don't even have to take it off)
5) The website actually gives you meals to follow to assist in your weightloss ( but suggests other products from Apex which I also consider a CON)
Bodybugg Cons:
1) The food logging system is very poor. I can never find what I actually eat in the database and I've had to manually log my food everytime. (MFP is much better IMO so I log my food here instead) Edited to say: To be fair once the food is put in the site does remember it and brings it up for that meal option...but I've gotten spoiled with MFP.
2) Not waterproof so if you swim as an exercise you have to manually log it.
3) Can irritate your skin if you don't adjust it often through the day and you need to clean it daily after you workout or you get skin build up on the sensors.
But that is pretty much it for me.
I LOVE MY BODYBUGG. It has really helped keep me focused on my calories and if I didn't already have one that is less than 2 years old I would get the SP in a heartbeat.0 -
Someone correct me if I'm wrong because I don't have one, but the Bodybugg and Bodymedia aren't really HRM. As far as I understand they don't monitor heart rate. They will give you an accurate calorie count for your entire day, which a HRM will not do, but they won't be able to tell you what your heart rate is. They use skin temperature, an accelerometer and other variables to determine how many calories you have burned.0

Are you graduating from Boise State?0

Thanks for all the input guys!!! Lots of info to go through. I am leaning more towards bodymedia. We'll see.
I actually am graduating from NNU in Nampa (Northwest Nazarene University). I am excited!!! Finally, it's been six years coming!0 -

hi guys
i was wondering if you knew, can i use MFP with the bodybugg or do i need to purchase their online program too?
i would love to use MFP and am thinking of getting a bodybugg
thanks, Emma :drinker:0 -
You have to subscribe to their service. But on a side note...I will be using MFP mostly with whatever I do. I think this is a great site with lots of info, support and guidelines. Good luck Emma! :flowerforyou:0
