Craving salt?

I don't really crave sweets, but I crave salt ALL THE TIME. Crackers, pretzels etc. Does anyone know what that means? I feel like I'm not satisfied with a meal unless I have something salty with it. Also, I don't actually add salt to my food, just want the chips (cut those out), crackers, pretzels etc.

Any ideas?

    Just found this link -
    http://www.3fatchicks.com/what-causes-salt-cravings/

Here's an excerpt. It also lists some other possible causes as well.

    Dehydration

Dehydration is the single most common cause of salt cravings. Dehydration is the loss of water from the body. If too much water is lost, the body will begin pulling the nutrients it needs from other sources. One of these nutrients is salt and this will cause a salt craving. This craving can be cured by drinking more water and can be prevented by getting the proper amount of water per day–at least 8 glasses.

I've heard that when we want salty treats like chips and pretzels, it's likely we are craving the crunch rather than the salt (especially if you're not wanting to salt your foods).

Try carrot sticks (or baby carots), celery, or any raw veggie. See if that tames the craving.

I had the same cravings a few months ago, until someone asked me how much fruits I've been eating. Then it donned, on me - I've had very little fruits! Just for a few days, be liberal with your fruit intake, especially those high in potassium - worked really well for me and got rid of my cravings.
