I generally don't do much abs stuff (as they get worked enough from compound lifting) but at muay thai training we were doing situps/crunches and getting whacked in the stomach in between each rep with a thai pad (sort of padded thing for forearms) to keep em tight. Really worked as I can normally do about twice as many situps normally :P Need 2 people though.

I also have the 6 Week 6 Pack DVD and I like it a lot. There is a level 1 and 2 and each are about 30 minutes. She does a huge variety of ab moves, many of which I've never seen before. She does a lot of plank moves and standing ab moves. She also incorporates cardio blasts to keep your heartrate up.

I'm planning on doing this at least 3x a week for the next month to see what kind of results I get. Right now I have been doing it about once a week.

You can't spot reduce fat or just tone one area, you have to burn fat and do cardio to shed the fat while toning, so unfortunately doing a ton of crunches isn't going to make a huge difference I don't think.

The DVD I'm using for abs is called Perfect Abs by Meghan White, it has 8 & 9 min ab wo's that are killer in it. I like it because it's just 8 and 9 mins. I was going to do a round tonight but my abs are still screaming from me doing it yesterday. I love it, and I love doing it for just 8 or 9 mins!

The 10 min wos seem great for my purposes too. I just want to get these abs DONE! I'm hoping that my abs will not be sore by tomorrow so I can do another round of abs tomorrow night. Perfect Abs DVD is just friggin' KILLER which is why I'm still sore today.

Another thing I've noticed about abs is that it changes how it takes the fat off, sometimes it's top under the ribs to the bottom, and this time it's sides going in towards the middle. Either way is great for me.

I think I'll look at getting something like that - 8 or 9 minutes you can fit in easily. I'm also doing lots of cardio to lose the fat but how many times do you read about people being 'skinny fat' because they haven't been toning their muscles too? I know you can't pick where the fat comes off but I think the earlier the better to be toning those muscles as part of a well rounded exercise regime. :)

Glad everyone is doing so well with their ab work! I did crunches, reverse crunches and push ups last night.

My EA Sports Active 2 program has abs built into each session but I don't like it as much as doing the separate abs dvd Perfect Abs, which is hard & I like it a lot better.

Stomach exercises can be a good tool to use on your quest to get a flat stomach. Exercises can help to tone your stomach and shape your ab muscles to look better and tighten up. This will allow your ab muscles to better support any extra fat that hangs off of them. Eventually you will need to lose that fat if you want real, lasting results. But by toning your stomach, you can get a well formed and great looking stomach.

Thanks, I am very pleased with the results it has given me. It's definitely spurred me on to invest in a few more Jillian DVDs. Jillian recommends 5 times a week so I average 4/5 times a week as I still gym twice a week.

    Today I did, 10-12 reps:
    Toe Touch
    Hanging Knees to Chin Raises
    Fingers to Heel Oblique Touchers
    Swiss Ball Bridge (60 secs)

    x 4

On the third set, I felt the burn, I always feel it worse when working the lower abs.

I have been doing the above for about 4 weeks twice a week, on Monday I will change the exercises to:
Medicine Ball Crunch on Exercise Ball
    Hanging Abdominal Leg Raise
    Oblique Crunch
    Swiss Ball Pull-In

I work core into all of my strength routines, but tomorrow focuses on it. I'm adding plate twists to my core workout. I do decline bench crunches and floor oblique crunches as well as some cross-body crunches. I used to do planks and side planks but it was hurting my shoulder which is still recovering from a car accident.

I know what you mean. Ben Gay & Icy Hot are my friends for sure.

I did another round of abs today! Also tricep kickbacks and triceps in general.
