Hey everyone,

I've been working really hard to put on the weight that I lost when I was sick, and I'm now pretty much at a healthy weight. I've been put on Ritalin 10 to help a lot of of my issues - as well as borderline ADHD. I've started taking it today and I already feel calmer. BUT Weight loss is one of the side effects, anyone have any experience with Ritalin. I'm not wanting to loose my appetite as I'm finally getting back into my passion for food, cooking and life, but I'm just wanting to know what to expect.

Thanks very much

I am surprised you have been but on Ritalin that doesn’t seem to be the norm anymore ok I was on Ritalin 10 years ago and I am currently on Concerta for ADHD…Here is what I have noticed if you look at my how much weight I have to lose it might tell you something lol…no honestly for people that don’t have ADD or ADHD they use it for speed or whatever and I am sure that it helps curb their appetite etc. for people like myself (I have talked to others and actually did a little mini experiment in my psychology class about this I am not a scientist at all but was tired of getting the your on those meds and still fat/heavy looks and comments) (the mini-experiment was just having a group of us together that have or had been on the meds skinny and heavy talking about how they made us feel) the first month or so that you are on them (I went off my ADHD meds for a few years and got back on them about a year ago when I went back to school) The first 30 days when they are truly getting into your system you are more than likely not going to feel as hungry etc but once they get into your system and they help you calm etc and balance the chemicals in my brain they are going to even phase your hunger not really…again I think the people that really feel like it is speed and a great weight loss drug do not have ADD or ADHD because it is supposed to help us calm and be able to concentrate…now a lot of this has to do with the correct dosage for you…this did take me about 6 months on Ritalin to get the balance for the day and how many times a day I should take it etc …the Concerta may be about 3 months I like the Concerta more because it is time released throughout the day but you and your doctor know what is best for you….also becareful not to take it right when you eat because the first month or so it can well it did me make me queasy…hope this helps and that I did not go too far off topic I blame it on my ADHD lol ;)

Be careful not to lose your appetite on Ritalin. I take Adderall and make sure I eat or else I go into starvation mode and actually gain. Yes, I have gained weight on Adderall. My body wants to binge when I don't eat enough. I will say this... it certainly does help with my workouts. Good luck on your journey!
