P90x equipment suggestions please!!!

Okay, after much debate, I've finally decided that I am going to give P90x a shot, and then hopefully move on to Insanity. I need to get the equipment together and I was wondering which would be best, the resistance bands or the weights. More specifically, which would give me the best results? I found a pull up bar that is pretty cool bc it adjusts to different angles to modify pull-ups if you aren't very good at them...I have not attempted a pull-up in quite a few years lol! But I'm wondering if instead of getting the cool pull-up bar if I should just use the bands...I've heard there is a way to do modified pull-ups with the bands. Yeah, I'm pretty lost.

Congrats on taking the plunge! It will be the best investment to YOURSELF!! As for the equipment, you can get by with resistance bands (I'd recommend a set - light, medium, heavy) and the pull up bar. For the Yoga days, if you aren't really flexible (YET), then may want a Yoga block to assist. Otherwise, you don't need a whole lot to start.
When I did my first round, I only had resistance bands. No pull up bar, no weights, etc. Now I have the whole sha-bang, as it made me an addict! LOL.
Best of luck and keep us posted!

I would get the pullup bar- hands down. You will see results with the bands, but the pullup bar will help you build more lean muscle mass since you will be pulling your own weight. It'll also utilize more muscles going against gravity. P90X is a great workout, I have done it before without following the diet plan and achieved great results. If you can do the workout and eat well, I'm sure you will be in the best shape of your life afterwards.
If you have trouble with pullups, you can use a chair for assistance and the great thing about that is that it works your legs too. I would suggest doing as many pullups as you can without it and then incorperate the chair. As far as doing the pullups with the band, it suggests that you hang it from the ceiling. I have both the bands and the pullup bar, and when I want to use the bands(Which is usually never, but I did it for a short time when my fiance was working out with me and we only had one pullup bar at the time), I have to loop it around the pullup bar from the cieling and pull down anyway. You still feel the burn, but your abs won't get the workout they will with the pullup bar alone. I. I just restarted p90x last week and have already lost two inches off my waist. Great workout, I highly recommend it, and highly recommend the pullup bar to reach the full potential for the workouts.0 -
I really, really prefer weights to bands. I just find the bands uncomfortable. I do use them for the pullup portion, but that's only because we have one bar that my husband uses because he can actually do pullups lol. You might want a yoga mat, depending on what kind of surface you're working out on.0
