Bottom line. . . . . if you hate it. . . .you won't do it! If you like it. . . . . . . . . YOU WILL DO IT! You CAN get your heart rate up walking fast or up hill, and I am totally not into high impact because it is sooooooo hard on your joints!!! Knees, hips, ankles, heels, feet!!! The impact of constant impact can become VERY painful and result in surgery, soooooo just remember high impact impacts your joints in a big way, especially if you have that issue in your genes:) Enjoy your walk my friend:)

Do what ever feels good. When ever I get into the running mode I tend to go to far for me and get hurt.
As a general rule of thumb (runners world, Jim Fixx book on running..) you burn about 100 calories per mile. If you can get your heart rate into to a good range, by walking faster or adding some hand weights or movements walking will give you the same benefits as running.0 -
