In the past I've done intervals and sprinting, where I would sprint or run 1-3 times around a track (10 laps=1mile) then complete a set of strength exercises in between. This is really effective, accept I dont have access to that track anymore any running is done on a treadmill.

I wanted to continue doing interval training/sprints because its so effective but also I've read that doing X amount of time at 95% exertion with X mins at a resting period is very effective. Does any one have an interval training that's worked for them, such as run 2 min at 7mph the jog at 5mph. I'm trying to get a good idea so I can build a workout for tonight.

I do HIIT training on the treadmill with sprints of 45 seconds at 10.5-11 mph with jogging breaks at 60% of that for 75 seconds.

Read the wikipedia entry on HIIT and look at the timing. We do a lot of tabata intervals and I LOVE them. You can put in just about anything you want, too. It's a good interval for sprints, too.

I've never done that kind of interval training, but my trainer just recently got me on a different kind of interval training. Do a warmup, then do X amount of minutes on low resistance (or incline), x amount of minutes on a high resistance, then go back down to low resistance.. Doing this around 5 times within 15-20 minutes (or as many as you can handle).

I've been dong a metabolic training workout plan for cardio that has really been getting me to work hard. It has 7 different workouts that you do in an order over 6 weeks. I got it after doing a metabolic test and it was included in it.

I do interval training on the treadmill...I was first trying to run/jog for an entire song, and then, i stopped doing that, and would run for a good minute at a nice slow pace, then walk for 2 min, and then run a min, i kept up with that, and now i'm able to run for a solid 15-20 min...I have NEVER been a decent runner in my life! LOL

That's Great! I am not a runner naturally. When I did sprint intervals in the past I went from running a 5K in 33 mins to 25 mins. It was outrageous. I am trying to get back to that speed.
