I listen to this blog and am intrigued by this whole notion. I've always thought it quackery but many of the referenced articles make sense.

I'm going to try this for today and see how it goes.

I do 24 hr fasts, usually from after dinner to dinner the next day b/c I can't sleep if I'm hungry It ALWAYS gets thescale moving again and it makes me feel very strong and empowered. If I can go 24 hrs w/ no solids then I surely am strong enough to say no to a cookie0

I have started Intermittent Fasting a few weeks ago, and enjoy it. I had hit a plateau for over a month and tried increasing my cals and that only worked for a few weeks, so I tried fasting. I feel more energetic and have noticed weightloss again. Once a week, I have dinner around 5pm and don't eat again until 12 pm-3pm the next day. Not hard to do, I don't feel hungry or think about food during that time. I resume where I left off, have never pigged out after to make up for calories lost. I drink plenty of water and still get an hour on the treadmill. I definitely think it is something worth trying. Probably like everything else, what works for some, may not work for others, but it isn't gonna kill anyone to try it.0

This is exactly how I'm going about it, since being hungry at bedtime will definitely ruin my sleep.
I ate a late snack last night and won't eat until dinner tonight.
I'm changing my routine for today. I was going to do strenuous cardio today but now I'll just do some walking or light hiking and do it outdoors for some natural vitamin D.
The only pitfall I have had on MFP is the fact on my heavy exercise days I usually treat myself to eating a junk snack. Since I'm not going to be getting nutrition today I'm going to ensure what I do eat is full of it.
I'll have healthy dinner, and a healthy late snack tonight.
A multivitamin can't hurt, I do take one daily.0 -
I've been using the LeanGains.com approach to fasting. I can't do it to the letter during the week but I usually get a good 14 hours in. On weekends I get 16-17 hours. I was doing it 2-3 times a week. Now I fast daily. Hunger isn't an issue.0

I wrote a blog on this topic a while back.
http://bankshealth.wordpress.com/2011/02/19/inaugural-blog-short-and-long-term-underfeeding/
I've done extensive research into the benefits and drawbacks of not only short term fasting but also short and long term underfeeding.
feel free to ping me on my findings if you're interested.
FYI, I'm not bias one way or the other really, I've done STF in the past, and recognize they have benefits, I've also done balanced weight loss with moderate deficits as well which has it's own list of benefits and drawbacks.0 -
I think I'm going to try it!!! Starting now (1pm) until 9am tomorrow...unless I counted wrong that is 20 hours..We'll see how it works!0

Wow! VERY Interesting! Thanks.0

I might try that in a couple weeks, when I get my metabolic rate back up to normal.0

completely believe it's great people have been doing it for thousands of years...it's gotta be good for something!0

I did it yesterday but it messed me up for today, then again, if I stick to a regular 1.k calories a day then fast one day a week might be ok, drank no end of peppermint tea yesterday0

The idea definitely sounds interesting..but does seem to go against what we've been told for awhile now. Sadly I love food far too much to give it up intentionally. I'd love to hear updates about how its working for others though!0

I haven't done it since the day I made this thread, but here's to doing it tomorrow.0
