56 days on MFP

Hi all,
I am from the North West of England and turned 60 at the beginning of March. We celebrated my birthday with 3 weeks in the Canary Islands, on my return I was horrified to find that I weighed my highest ever weight of 175 lbs, that's 12 and a half stone in English money. At 5' 7" tall, that is definitely overweight! We had read about an MFP success story while away, so decided to give it ago. I weighed in this morning at 162 lbs, so I can definitely say that MFP works for me.
MFP works if you enter every single thing that you eat in your diary, it helps you to make informed choices, why eat something that's going to rack up 500 calories when you can have something just as satisfying for 200 calories. Or if you go for the 500 calories, well at least you are aware.
My weakness is beer, I love beer. So now I hit the treadmill 5 times a week and burn off around 6 - 700 calories a time. I figure that I can take my treats out of my exercise calories and use my daily allowance for normal food. It's working for me anyhow. This morning I ran for 63 minutes and burned off 760 calories, I need to lose around another 8 lbs, and then maintain that weight for the rest of my life. With MFP, I am confident of achieving this.
I feel like I have regained my old body.
Lots of luck to everyone,
Alan

Awesome job! I hate to exercise, but when I know that I can have a "treat" if I do, then I am all for it! On those days that I don't exercise, I only get my 3 meals and 2 snacks. I actually love having to work for that after supper snack! I have lost 26# so far, and never felt better.0

Beer was my weakness too. I've cut it out of my diet entirely and I'm sure I've lost my weight more quickly because of it. It's not so much the calories in the beer, but that those calories turn into sugar rather quickly. If you are like me, much of that beer was consumed between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. LOL... not a good time to consume that many sugars & carbs.
Have a beer for breakfast !!!0 -
Yes Mark,
I agree that beer slows things down a little, I am trying to keep off the beer until I reach my goal weight. As for the long term, I just need to make room for beer in my calorie allowance. Running does that for me.
Great job with what you've lost so far, and good luck with your goals.
