i started wearing knee high socks on deadlift day because i kept scraping my shins.0 -

try looking up 'rippetoe deadlift' on youtube. there should be some good instructional videos on there0 -
You can do straight or bent leg0

I say bend your knees. You should rarely, if ever, have your knees locked when working out. And keeping a straight back needs to be said twice. This is THE most important thing. Protect that back! Only go as far down as you can manage at first, and go from there. Good luck!0
