HRM Calorie Burn

My wonderful husband just got me a Polar FT7 as an early Mother's Day gift, and so far I love it! I often hear people on here talk about how MFP overestimates calories burned during exercise, but according to my HRM, I am burning more than MFP is giving me credit for. Like today I went on a 2.5 mile run followed by a .75 mile walk, and MFP gave me just over 300 calories for the whole workout while my HRM gave me 470! It certainly felt more like 470 cals. I was really pushing myself today because I am trying to improve my speed for my upcoming 5K, so maybe that makes a difference?

Just wondering if any of you have had the same experience, or if I should be cautious about the number my HRM is giving me. I've heard that Polar is one of the most accurate brands around, but I'm just curious.

Absolutely your HRM is more accurate!!!! So take pride in all those calories your monitor said you burned and log it!! MFP just takes an average number of calories based on height, wt, whereas your HRM accounts for your age, sex, ht, wt, etc! I love mine!
