Are more calories ok??

I changed my goal from losing 1 lb a week to .5 lb a week. In doing so my calorie goal went from 1260 to 1460. I'm a little hesitant about this number. Should I lower it? Maybe I'm just thinking to much into it. The number scares me and I don't want to gain. Advise?

i did the same thing and it went from 1200 to 1450 and i was scared too... but at the same time, there is still a deficit from what we would normally eat, so one person said to me that even if i gain the first week or so, after that i should still lose... hopefully it's true0

Stick with the higher calories and see how it works for you. For me, I had to raise mine from 2 lb. a week to 1.5, to 1lb and finally to .5 a week. Even set at .5 a week I generally lose 1 pound. My body did not like such low amounts of calories especially with exercising 5-6 days a week. I need to eat more and exercise just a bit less, drink lots of water and get more sleep for me to lose. If one of those is out of balance I artificially gain for a few days.0

I say give it a shot. Eat - enjoy. Stay active and make healthy food choices and I think you will see a good reaction to the increase in calories.0

I really don't think you would gain. If you changed your settings to "maintain" instead of losing, you would see that your calories would go up then too. That's because when you are trying to lose weight, you have to create a deficit of calories burned to calories consumed. So, what MFP is telling you is correct, I'd go with it.0

I just did the same thing 2 days ago. I went from 1200 (which I was actually eating around 950 avg) to 1470 and now I end up eating around 1250-1300. Hoping that I will start to lose a little more.
Lets try this together and see what happens!0 -
I would see how it goes for a few weeks before lowering it. If you want to lose less than you were, you've got to eat more.0

I would say do what you feel is best. Your body will tell you if you are eating too much or not enough. If your not loosing weight, I would try lowering them as well.0

OP,
You are young & have 8 lbs to lose. EAT!!! Yes, you should be eating probably even more than 1400 - I don't know how tall you are.
.5 to lose is all you should safely aim for at this point. Weight is a number. Work on fitness and nutrition at your age to set some good habits for the future when you are on your own.0
