I've been going thru a lot of medical stuff since last month for complete physicals (just started getting medicare so can do it now). My doctor's office said he wants to see me about my labs. Has stuff to go over with me. Said especially my vitamin D and insulin levels.
Anybody know about those things?

The only thing I know about insulin is t hat it controls your blood sugar levels. Nothing on the Vitaman D. Good luck.

From what I've read, bad insulin results probably indicate diabetes while low vitamin D usually means you're not getting enough sun.

I've thought about diabetes and how I have always been a sugar and carb freak so if it is diabetes then I'm giving myself a kick in the butt and say to myself "See...ya dork!...you knew all those cookies would lead to this". If that's what it is I hope my change in my foods lately will help a lot.

I have a long family history of diabetes. I'm not diabetic but last year my A1C was a little high which means that my overall blood sugar over a period of time was too high although my fasting blood sugar was normal. This can be rectified through eating healthy and exercising. If you are pre-diabetic, you can do the same thing by simply losing a few pounds. Diabetes is basically controlled through diet, exercise and keeping a decent body weight. Most of the horror stories you hear about diabetics come from 'uncontrolled' diabetes. Anyway I was diagnosed last year with a severe deficiency in vitamin D which seems to be happening a lot these days. It causes joint pain which I have and can lead to heart problems and other illnesses just as diabetes, but can be fixed with the vitamin. I am just finishing up on a megadose - 50,000units twice a week. My levels are still low but much better than it was last year, so I will probably be taking a supplement after I'm done with the megadose. It also means that you're not getting enough sun which is a problem for me because I can't stand to be in the heat, but I heard on a news show the other day that this deficiency is also coming from using sunscreen. Even a sunscreen of just 15spf blocks 99% of sun rays from the body which apparently has contributed to this low vitamin D epidemic. Either way, I think you'll be fine. Everything your doctor mentioned can be treated and controlled and you can still continue to live a full, happy and healthy life. Good luck!

Exercise and weight loss frequently solve high blood sugar issues.
Getting the vitamin D on track will make you feel better. I went throught the whole vitamin D stuff a year ago. Living in the NW where "The bluest skies you NEVER see are in Seattle" my VT D level was 13. It is normal now and I feel wonderful. I believe it is a key to my success in losing 65 pounds!

If it is Diabetes, you can read my blog about how I am dealing with Diabetes. I wrote a Diabetes 101 for a friend of mine who was newly diagnosed. A sort of Quick run through on the major things to focus on.
