I swim usually once or twice a week. I'm not a HUGE fan of the water, but I do triathalons in the summer so getting in the pool is a necessity for me. My usual workout is 2000 meters (80 laps), give or take.

I guess it would depend on what your goals are? Conditioning or Cutting? I am a sprint swimmer and find that it is a good way to efficiently work many muscle groups at once.

If you're short on time (like myself) I would suggest performing high intensity interval training (HIIT) This is an efficient way to burn fat. An example workout would be as follows..

    20 X 50yard sprints (85-90% intensity)
After each sprint perform a 100yard stretch swim (60-70% intensity)
After each set (one 50 and one 100) you can keep swimming or rest 10 seconds to catch your breath.
You'll notice I didn't include a time interval due to the fact I have no insight to your swimming ability.

If you are not short on time and are looking to keep your heartrate elevated for a longer period of time I would suggest the following..

    20 X 100yd (performed at 70 - 80% intensity) rest 20 seconds between each.

If you're body and mental state are geared more towards endurance I would suggest...

    10 x 200yd (80 - 85% intensity) rest 20 seconds between each.

The swimplan.com reference by aquaaura also works to keep things interesting.

    Happy bubbling!
