Happy & Frustrated

I hit 60lbs lost today - I am elated. I feel amazing, I look in the mirror and feel like I look great - for the first time in a long time, while I was blow-drying my hair, I didn't hate the reflection of my face (it's slimmed out considerably) and overall, I have nothing to complain about. I have about 25-30 lbs to go before I hit a healthy bmi and really hope to do so for my birthday in September.

All that being said, I was all excited to take some "after pictures" to post in the Success Stories section, and after taking about 20 of them, I am so frustrated that I still look heavy (at least in my eyes). That the 40-33-44 measurements (which I am relatively happy about re: hourglass with a few extra hours) didn't transpire in the pictures. I am going to wait until my daughter gets home so that she can take them for me - perhaps its just the whole mirror / cell phone picture taking that is mucking it up, but after looking through the pics, my happiness kind of wore off.

PLUS - I have a friend coming today whom I have not seen since I was her maid of honor last May. I was a size 18 then. I am now a 14/12. A few years back, she used to work out, but has since let things slide. I have been keeping her up to date with my progress, and overall, she has been supportive, if not a little bit passive aggressive about it. She finally admitted to me last week in an email that she was nervous to see me because - and I quote - "I'm a bit nervous about seeing you. Sounds like we've swapped places physically.. you're all skinny and buff and awesome fit and I've gotten all pudgy and chubby and out of shape again!" I read that and thought - OUCH! she was healthy, but never to such a point that one would have thought she was a body builder or something ..... anyways - she gets here in an hour, and after my picture debacle, I'm nervous too - nervous that she won't "notice" or say something underhandedly 'nice' ....

thanks - as always - for listening to my gripes!

We're out own worst critic, aren't we?
I totally get where you're coming from - although I've never lost 60lbs (that's my goal though) I've lost about 25lbs and people notice. So I CANNOT imagine that no one would notice after losing 60 lbs!! Give yourself some credit for the amazing progress and transformation that you've made. Go back to the happy, elated person you were before the cellphone pics. Cell phones have such a low resolution that no photo taken with them is accurate anyways. Keep up the good work AND be sure to tell yourself what an amazing job you've done. I imagine that if your friend doesn't say anything to you today, its because she is mute with jealousy.

It's not easy for all people to just be happy for another person. BUT on MFP we can do it, no problem!!

60 pounds lost is awesome! Never discount all the hard work and effort you have put in to get there. I am certain that it is noticeable, and remember some persons even those who are smaller and at their ideal weight still have a facial structure that is fuller than others. Your proof is not only on the scale but in your measurements (BTW I love the hourglass figure comment).
Hold youe head high, and don't give your 'friend' a second thought, TRUE friends will rejoice in your weight loss-and they notice weight loss of any kind.
I have been overweight my entire life, and have quite a few pounds to lose and have lost 9 pounds since I joined MFP-I would likely be bouncing off the ceiling if I had lost 60 pounds.

Just FYI, Marilyn Monroe (whom I adore and love) who was known as the ultimate beauty of her time, was a size 10/12 for most of her life...Your measurements are AWESOME! and your waist is a healthy number!

I bet you look awesome! Rock it sista!

And I hate myself in pictures no matter what size I am... and the camera hates me too, it always adds ten or 15 pounds to my body.
