Once you lose the weight, will the stretch marks go away? Or do you have to do something to resolve the issue? I have stretch marks that I would love to just disappear.

I've been told that stretch marks are scars and will never go away =( They will, however, become less noticable

In my experience they will fade...but won't ever go all the way away

Stretch marks are forever. Get used to them :] If yours are red now, you can get a stretch mark cream (mederma worked wonders on mine), they will lighten but they won't ever go away. If you rub your fingers over them, you can feel they're more like raised scars and scars don't really go away.

Unfortunately, no. Stretch marks are forever. They will fade, but will never disappear.
  • Unfortunately not all of them disappear. I was much larger than i am now and when i dropped weight, i still had them show to a extent. I also weight lifted a bit and those are still prevalent around my shoulders. The good news is that they do fade over time as long as you keep up the weight loss. Ive also been told that using a moisturizer like St Ives, Dove, etc. will lessen the marks but like a scar on the body, they wont disappear completely without surgery.

Sadly all I can add to that is that they indeed don't go away, they just turn white after a while (which works for me since my skin is pretty much white, too). A cream also might help them shrink a little bit, but they'll never go away. But, losing weight at a slow pace will make sure you don't get more :)

Only quick options are certain laser treatments and surgery.. but apparently the laser treatment only works while they're still red, and even then i'm not sure about the results.

I gained almost 50 pounds with each of my 4 pregnancies...lots of stretch marks! The stretch marks fade somewhat, but have never gone away. My youngest child is 18 years old...so...don't think they ever go away completely.:grumble:

I have a lot of stretch marks from my pregnancies too. Unfortunately I asked my doctor and he said there is no way to make them go away completely

Thanks everyone! I will just have to suck it up and just wait for them to fade a little. A little is better than nothing.

I've found that coconut oil has helped mine fade quite a bit.
