CAN'T EAT MY CALORIES BACK SINCE....

I can't seem to eat my workout calories all back since I've started working out twice a day now. I usually workout at 5AM with Insanity and then run about 3 miles on my lunch break. Sometimes I go into dinner having over 1200 calories STILL left because of working out. What should I do?!

I don't feel like if I eat them all back that it will help me, BUT I know I shouldn't have that many left over either. Not sure how to handle this because I eat all day...6 small meals throughout the day per my husband's trainer. I am always full and never really feel more hungry for anything. Higher calorie foods aren't good for me either.

ANY SUGGESTIONS out there? Thanks!

    I have this problem quite often too. The thought of "starvation mode" scares me a little, though I try not to stress about it too much if I don't make it. Days that I know I'm going to work out twice I try to amp up my regular meals with a little added extras. Like I'll add avocado to my salad, have 1/2 cup of walnuts with my snack instead of 1/4 cup, add a little extra cheese to my omelet, make a smoothie and add some protein powder. That sort of thing. Then you're just adding a few extra healthy cals throughout the day and are not left with a staggering 800 at the end of the day.

    If you can't, then don't!

    They are there if you need them. You DO NOT need to eat them all back.

    peanut butter is also a good thing, high in calories yet not bad for you. lot's of protein :)

    I have the same issue! I work out at the end of the day and I tend to earn back a 1000 cal after my workouts. By the time I get home I really do not feel like consuming that many calories before bed time. Am I starving my body of the energy that it needs?

    Im having this same problem!! I usually work out at lunch and then work out after work and have 1200-1500 calories to eat back! I try to eat 3 meals and 2 snacks a day! I thinking I am going to boost up my calorie intake during the day?? Otherwise when I get home from the gym after 7pm and I am eatting a dinner trying to make up too many calories. I think my goals page says I can have a 900 calorie defitct and still loss but its just not explained well. So frusterated with that ;) but not willing to slow down my work out regime!!

    May I ask why then exercise more? why dont you just exercise once a day then you wont have to force yourself to eat more calories. Im new to this site so maybe Ive missed something

    As long as I'm getting my basic 1200 calories eaten, I don't worry about eating the exercise calories - at all.

    Maybe toss in a couple protein shakes? That is what I do. HEALTHY liquid calories to make up the slack and get me up over 1200 net.

    Another way to get some calories is to drink some juice or have some milk. they have calories with out being extra since you need to keep hydrated, that can be a way to fit in some calories and keep your fluids up. especially since you are working out 2 times a day you need to keep hydrated well.

    Not trying to be mean, but why can't you have higher calorie foods? Nuts are high in calories and still good for you. Also, have you thought about working out a little less if you are having that much trouble meeting your calorie goals?

    HI I'M QUITE NEW BUT THE WAY I READ IT - IS THAT SO LONG AS YOU EAT THE CALS YOUR GIVEN BEFORE EXERCISE THEN YOUR BODY WONT GO INTO STARVATION MODE

    Do both. Less cardyo and moar phood. Sounds logically feasible :indifferent:

    If you're able to perform an intense routine like Insanity in the morning and go for a 3 mile run for lunch, it sounds like you're pretty damn fit. Even if you were training for sport, you'd still have to [re]fuel your body. I agree with throwing in some protein shakes, maybe a bit more dairy, carbs [like grains and fruit], and nuts. Those are all calorie-dense foods that are good for you.

    Just relax and eat what you want when you want. That's the joy of loads of exercise, you can eat more or less exactly what you feel like without worrying (as long as it's not endless junk food).

    It seems crazy to recommend that somebody does LESS exercise when they're on a diet?!?!?!

    THanks for all the great tips! I've actually hired a trainer to help me and he's got me on protein shakes now and that seems to be taking care of it for most days. I am not going to quit exercising as much and I'm not going to eat what ever I want to either that would certainly defeat the purpose of trying to get more toned and healthy. I work out intensely and I still have 27 pounds to lose before I will feel like I am at my target weight. Thanks again for all the tips and it's good to hear I'm not the only one that has this issue. :)
