I do not know very much info on donuts but i do know by avoiding glaze and chocolatey toppings i can avoid more sugar and excess calories. Does anyone know how many calories are in a basic, non-glazed, safeway old fashioned donut? You know the ones that look like a crown. i assume they are not great for me, but i figure i can have one every month or so?

I am assuming they would be around the same as these. 320.
I have heard that the yeast donuts are less calories than the cake donuts. I love yeast donuts. Of course, I haven't had a donut in months.0 -
I think if you look up 'crueller' and then 'old-fashioned' in the Food database you should be able to figure something out.
I think the 'crown' shape you are talking about is a classic crueller, while the fact that it is not glazed makes it one of those more cakey donuts.
On the other hand, if you get your donuts from the same place each time, maybe see if they can tell you where to look up the exact nutritional information.
Donuts, as you guessed, are not that great for you, but I still eat them. I LOVE THEM :smooched: !!! I try not to eat them as often as I used to - and maybe I eat one for every 5 times I want one!
I'm a sordid realist so for me, it's not like I'm going to not-eat donuts between now and the day I die...0 -
Oh, and of course you can have a donut once a month. Do it on a day you exercise so you are not starving the rest of the day because you ate 1/4 or 1/3 of your calories in one small treat.0

Cruellers are different from old fashioned. The crown the OP described definitely sounds more like an old fashioned. A crueller is a raised donut that has the look of a swirl all the way around due to the way it was extruded.
But yes, around 320 is probably right, I just had one this weekend and that's what it's calories were. If you do a search on here you'll find a number of entries. Or you can compare info from shops that have nutritional info online like Dunkin' Donuts, Yum Yum Donuts or other places to find what seems to best match what you ate.0
