Mother's day brunch sabotage!

Hands down, the hardest part of controlling my eating are family events, for example, Mothers Day brunch. It doesn't even have to be a holiday. Just a Sunday dinner at Mom's house with my sisters and nephews, and I'm suckin' down the calories.

What are your strategies to contend with family/event eating?

I always offer to bring a dish that way I know there is at least one healthy option

Figure out what you are eating ahead of time and add it to your tracker. That way you know how much you can eat and won't overdo it.

I agree! My mom's brunch line-up is souffles, scones, fruit salad and carrot cake! I'm definitely gonna fill up on fruit salad but seeing as how I AM a mom im going to enjoy the day too =) im going to excersize and make sure my other meals are light. Portions are key!

plan, plan, plan. Bring your own food if needed, or some dishes you can enjoy. Who knows, maybe your family will get interested and enjoy them too.

I finally came to believe once per week really doesn't do as much as damage as it sounds. Go enjoy your time with family, and just remember to pick it up again next day.

I really listen to myself and stay within serving sizes. I don't go back for more food either. For dessert I take half as much as I would normally take. Instead of focusing on the food part of the family get together I focus on visiting with family.

I just try to eat small portions and try to pick healthier options.

Eat a small but really healthy meal before you go to the family gathering. Once you're there, you won't be starving and you can have a small spoonful of everything there and not feel bad for overdoing it - or offend any one for not eating what they lovingly prepared

Most holidays I just eat a big salad first then eat the healthier items in very small portions, but this Mother's Day is an exception. I am not going to gorge on everything but I'm not holding back. I am going to enjoy this Mother's Day.

Watch the portion size. If you have an idea about what is going to be served look it up and plan what you are going to eat beforehand. I usually don't worry about events like Mother's Day since it is one meal one day. That will not destroy your progress as long as you get back to eating well right away.
