Running and walking fast..???????

Since I have started TRYING to run I have really upped my walking speed. I figured out that I walk ALMOST 4mph with my dog normally. (I tested myself on the treadmill) But when I "run" witch is more like a jog I think cuz I am not going fast, I feel like I am going the same speed if not SLOWER than when I walk. The only difference is my form. Am I crazy? Am I doing something wrong here? What is a RUN and what is a JOG and what is a SPEED WALK????? im so confused. Am I burning more calories if I hold a running form at 4mph rather than walking at 4mph? I know I get more winded "running".. ohh please help. I want to say I can run.

I know what you mean, but don't have an answer. I can 'run' no faster really than I can walk - but am more stretched (physically) if I run. Would love to better understand it ......0

I dont know but am bumping this hoping someone will. I also walk 4.0 on the treadmill, usually at a 5.0 incline yet cant seem to "jog" past 2 minutes
It sure is kind of frustrating isnt it? I couldnt "jog" 30 seconds though a few months ago so it improves with time and persistance! That I know :flowerforyou:

when you run you engage more muscles which means you are using more of your body..which means your body needs more energy and oxygen to power it.0

There are a couple of ideas as to why this happens, and generally they think it's all down to our ancestors being apes! We evolved to walk on two feet, putting the heel down first and then the toes. This is a very efficient way to walk and uses less energy which was important to the hunter/gathers as they would often have to travel great distances to get food. So basically our bodies adapted a gait that traded off running efficiency for walking efficiency. Another theory suggests that running uses more energy, to give the human an advantage if fleeing from attack. It makes lots of energy available to enable us to get away quicker.0

I'd have to personally say that the difference is in the form. Although if you can't "run" faster then you can "speed walk" then I'd say your run is a jog and not a true run yet, which just make take you time for your body to be able to fully run. I'd say for it to count as a run it should be at least twice as fast as your top speed walk speed.0

:noway: Twice as fast..!!!!!! I am SOOOO far off that. Maybe I'll always be a walker/jogger rather than a runner. I can't every imagine going twice as fast as I can walk. Now I am even more in awe of those who can0
