too big clothes question...

so i have a dilemma...i know that i desperately need to clean out my closet to get rid of clothes that are too big, but my husband and i are planning on trying to get pregnant by the end of the summer (!!!) and i am a little hesitant to get rid of all of my one-size bigger clothes...i don't want to have to re-stock my entire closet if i don't lose the baby weight right away and/or for the first few months of my pregnancy...is the idea of saving some of my favorites crazy or realistic? i am starting the cleaning out process now, but i won't make a goodwill drop until i decide for sure what to do...i welcome any opinions...

I say get rid of it. If you gain pregnancy weight buy only a couple sets of clothes so you'll be motivated to lose again!0

That's a tough one, but I would definitely save a comfy sweatpants/sweatshirt type outfit for sure.0

I say keep them. You never know what will happen with the pregnancy weight and it would be totally disheartening for me to not fit into them soon enough, not motivating for me at all lol Maybe go through and get rid of half, but definitely not all!0

Nope, I'm saving some of my favorites for just the same reason. I'm not keeping everything, but those size 14 jeans in my closet might come in handy. I hope.0

I would keep them. When you have the baby, you will want to spend money on him/her and clothes wont be on your mind that much.0

I say keep them..... you may not get back into your smaller clothes right away and it will be nice not to be stuck wearing maternity clothes AFTER the baby is born. Good luck0

If you will be going back to work at some point fairly soon after your baby is born you should save about a week's worth of clothes. That way you can still wear comfortably fitting clothes while you try to lose some baby weight. If you get to be a stay at home mom only save sweats/workout clothes that are comfy.
You may be able to lose 3/4 of your baby weight in the first few weeks but that doesn't mean your size changes all that much.0 -
I definitely would keep them, maybe stashed away out of sight, but I was so shocked (always was a skinny girl til about now!), when I had my first child, at how big my belly was for at least a couple of months. It stinks to have to buy new clothes just to wear for such a short period of time. I learned to put them away so after each child I had something to wear besides maternity clothes.0

I agree I would not get rid of all of them You are going to want bigger clothes just after you have the baby any ways... I know I did! plus when you first start to show you can stay in regular pants longer if you keep some of your old ones.0

I would keep them. However good your intentions are its likely you will weigh more after the pregnancy and there is nothing more depressing that wearing maternity clothes after the baby is born. They also might be useful in early pregnancy before you have a bump and are ready for maternity clothes.
FWIW I have put on weight each time and struggled to loose it whilst breastfeeding (which I did each time until 6 months), and have dieted each time after breastfeeding.
However, out of sight and out of mind - pack them up into attic etc.0 -
theres a great website i use called bigwardrobe.com which is for people to swap and sell unwanted clothes. Maybe you could use this to get rid of those things you dont need and get some maternity wear from there too? xx0

Keep at least some of it. Even though you will lose the weight it still takes time and you need clothes for the in between time.0

As someone who just had a baby, I think it would be benificial to save a few pairs of pants (a pair or two of jeans, dressy pants) just to tide you over until you lose the weight. Youre not going to want to wear your maternity pants until you lose the weight (they're so uncomfortable and awkward after the belly's gone!)0

Get rid of the stuff you don't think you would want to wear again, but be warned you will put on weight when you have a baby, and even if you don't, your body shape changes. I would hang onto the clothes.0

Buy a Rubbermaid tub & keep them in the attic or at a relatives house....especially the things you really like.0

thank you for all of the great advice
i packed a rubbermaid full of my one-size to big clothes (mostly pants) for early pregnacy and right after
i feel better knowing that i will have a selection when that time comes...i can be a bit of a shop-a-holic so there were lots of things i wanted to keep because they were all still in good condition

Speaking of good condition clothes, I was speaking to my sister who works at a Ronald McDonald House in our area and she said they are always in need of donations for clothes. A lot of the women that may need the assistance have just had their children and need a larger size. She says they get donations of clothes but normally it is peoples size itty bitty clothes so if you are getting rid of their clothes this is a great place to donate to. So this is just a thought if you have a RMHouse in your area.0

It's smart to keep them! From my own experience, I NEEDED those larger sizes for a while after my babies were born. I worked out diligently while pregnant and I didn't gain all that much weight and I STILL took 9 months to get back down to my pre-preg size.0

I say keep them you can wear the clothes while pregnant and after baby arrives you can wear them again and you will probably sick of the clothes and very motivated to loss weight and be rid of them.0
