Hi, I have been seeing post about this and have surfed the web about but was wondering if someone who is actually doing it could explain it some to me before I go out and buy books and cookbooks about it. Thanks

You basically eat the way people did before food was processed. Paleologists have discovered from human remains that many current health problems and diseases didn't exist before large scale farming existed. People were fitter, taller and definitely not obese. Refined starches are largely at fault. Paleo eating involves eating foods that are the same shape as if you hunter/gathered the food yourself eg a steak as opposed to a burger, an orange as opposed to orange juice. Although there is nothing wrong with home made burgers!0

Hi
The Paleo Diet is very strict but could be a good kick start to weight loss. You have very limited choices and will have to cut so much out of your diet, even dairy
I have reviewed it on my website if you're interested! http://insulinresistancediet.info/paleo-diet-review/0 -
So to save my self some money do you think I could get buy with getting a cookbook, and if you have any sugggestions?0

I am thoroughly enjoying my Paleo lifestyle. You cut gluten, dairy, soy, and legumes. You eat a lot of protein, veggies, and good fats. I am having good success with it. I feel 1000 times better since I cut all processed foods and gluten from my diet. I have a little dairy here and there, that is all that I allow. But I have learned over the past few months I have to be all in or else I can't stop eating foods that I should not. I am addicted to sugar and carbs thus it is better, for me, if I cut them out.0

Thanks that was helpful!0

I liked your review, very true and laid out well. I too have done research on paleo/primal diets and although I would love to be that strict I just can't. I try to eat 3 days a week what I call clean lol just no processed foods. Other days I allow myself very small portions. It also doesn't help to have a 2 yr old addicted to Annie's cheddar bunnies lol her fac snack before bed lol so I always end up having a few of those and even Pirate Booty puffs.
I think if we are aware of what we are putting in our bodies and choose foods with better ingredients and less processing it will benefits us any way.
To the OP Good luck with your decision!!0 -
There are a ton of resources online. I use everydaypaleo.com and the Food Lover's Primal Palate for recipes. For more scientific information about Paleo, I go to robbwolf.com.0

Google Mark Sission primal blue print.....once you sign up for his news letter you can download a free cook book. There is also some great information on there!0 -
I personally view Paleo as just another health food gimmick, although it's certainly a step in the right direction. The thing is, If you -really- wanted to eat like a caveman, you'd have to eat whatever you could get your hands on, as choice wasn't really a luxury you could afford. Let's not forget that they also went days, possibly even weeks, without food due to a bad season. They had a short lifespan for a reason - you simply couldn't sustain yourself for very long on a diet like that. If you do some research and like what this "Paleo" diet has to offer, that's totally fine, but it is by no means an accurate portrayal of a caveman's diet, and I think labeling it as such is misinforming. Not to mention I think it's just silly to leave grains and legumes out of your diet, as they're both perfectly healthy options to include in your meal.0

Thanks Sassy Stef! I think your attitude is a good one - and if it works for you, stick with it!
My weight loss is very slow but it's steady and I don't feel too deprived, so I'm happier doing something that gives me a little more flexibility than Paleo. I have a friend who has done Paleo about 3 times and it always works really quickly for her - but she can never stick to it, so she's constantly putting that weight back on.
For those who can stick to it, I have nothing but admiration.0 -
Well it depends, it’s definitely not as strict as some would have you believe, unless you call cutting out “foods” that are harmful to you strict. Kind of like telling someone their diet is “strict” because you should never eat a twinkie again.
In a nut shell cut out all gluten grains, processed sugar, vegetable oil, and if you have lactose intolerance cut out dairy. IMO, and I’ve been doing “Paleo” for a few months, it’s a guide line, you educate yourself about how foods affect your body then make informed decisions as to what you want to put in it. Me personally, I haven’t knowingly eaten any grain, sugar, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil since I’ve started, or very little. I do eat cheese and yogurt.
If you are trying to lose weight it is recommended you keep your carbs low, kind of like Atkins, which if you aren’t eating bread, pasta, chips, fried foods and sugar isn’t hard to do. If not, you will still have much lower carbs than the typical diet just because eating whole, real food isn’t heavy in carbs.
Basically your list of foods will look something like this,,,,,, and much more.
Eat as much as you want of;
Meat
leafy green vegetables
eggs
berries
Low GI fruits
Eat in moderation;
Starchy veggies
High GI Fruits
Dairy, if you have no adverse reactions
Eat rarely
Rice and other non-gluten grains
Try to never eat or limit only to special occasions;
Vegetable oils
Gluten grains
processed sugar
IMO, this is a easy lifestyle change, it’s not a diet to lose weight on and go back to your SAD (standard American diet), once you learn why this diet is healthy and you see and feel the evidence, it’s a heck of a lot easier to live than counting calories for the rest of your life.0 -

This is also me. My sister does paleo. she farms her own meat so that even they are grass fed and free range. She looks amazing is muscular and healthy and happy. I however live in a city. and I like to indulge every once in a while. I tried to eat paleo before i got pregnant with my most recent son. I lost quickly, and it was easy, but i felt it was a little too restrictive for my liking.
MFP and counting calories has been the key to my weight loss.... and although some says i happen to eat paleo just because its what i am craving, I also have days where all i do is eat junk....and as long as i stay within my calories, I am fine!0 -
