Okay, so... I live with my fiance in his perants house, and there is never ANY food in.. There are 6 of us to feed so it is understandable... We do pay extra on top of rent for the food we eat....
But the problem is, is that my fiance's perants get very offended if we buy our own food. (Because we like to write our name on it, because the people in this house will eat your food instantly if its something nice). Were only allowd to keep our own food if its a fridge or freezer item... I dont know why either..
So were left with the food in the house... And whats worse i dont no how to cook anything that does have a label on the back of it.
So... i need some help for meals! healthy meals! Im going to give u a list of food that's normally in the house and remembering that i cant cook i'd love some ideas for meals that i can make out of it!
So in the fridge we have: non-fat milk, butter, cheese, salad cream.
(thats it no veg, no fruit, no nothing else)... at the moment were lucky, iv been prodding for a while and finally we have some cucumber and jam! but when thats gone it will be like another month until we get some more!)
In the freezer: nothing....
(the freezer consists of microwave vegertarian meals.. that im not allowd to eat because im not a vegertarian... and various birds eye meat things, that i wont eat because i cant stand birds eye...)..
In the cupboards: Rice krispies, tuna, beans, bread. Normally we also have a couple of pot noodles...
(and thats it there too.. every so often we'l have more cereal options... or some soup.. but thats about it....).
Although i should state that every couple of weeks my mum pops round with some food randomly... so we also currently have a beef pie, some bung in the microwave fajitas, and some chocolate eclares....
But this is one of the reasons why im always like **** i lets just get a take away...
So yeah i need some help... the foods iv listed to be in the house are like the only foods that will ever be in the kitchen while im living here...
with the list of items iv given what meals can i make?!?!
I really need some help!

Those food really don't sound like there's enough nutrition for a healthy lifestyle. You should definitely take a multivitamin if those are really the only food you'll have to eat.
The healthiest things I see are beans (assuming they are black beans or something and not baked beans with fat in them) and milk. I would make beans with some kind of spices and warm them up in the microwave and have them with a glass of milk for calcium and calories.0 -
@ rc630
yep there baked beans.. lol. and id have to do the shop and find some spices...0 -
to be honest i dont see many options in there i think if your allowed to fill the fridge up thats your only option you need to get a range of veg so you can at least get some salads in and mybe some meats to have with it... could you not sneak in a second hand small fridge in your room to keep some stuff just for yourself and you could keep fruit in you room as well. i feed 6 people aswell so i know how differcult it is to feed everyone on a budget but it is posible. good luck0

Its a good idea but them mini fridges are so loud, plus if my future parents-in-law new i had one they'd increase the rent for the electricity.. and i could buy fruit! but things like lettuce and cucumber.. once the wrappers gone itl be eaten by everyone else.0 -
Could you volunteer to be the one who does the shopping? That would drive me crazy.
Honestly, I'd be living off of big pots of beans.0 -
Hi! I agree with rc630 that the food that is in the house does not seem to be adequate for proper nutrition. Also, unless you can get some fajita wraps or similar (to make quesadillas or burrito wraps) I don't see many options for cooking. Maybe heat up tuna with some spices and add to 'pot noodles' with a lemon-butter and spices sauce. My suggestion, even though it may cause some initial tension and disruption, is to either talk to your fiances parents and tell them exactly how you feel, about how you feel that they don't like it when you don't want their food. Maybe discuss with them they it is not a reflection in any way on how you feel about anyone, everyone likes to eat different and ask how you two can co-exist in the same house while eating differently without hurting their feelings. Possibly offer to go shopping with them and go with some recipes that you guys can make together that are healthy. If their is a vegetarian in the house, they may appreciate having a veggie chili made (one of my favorite healthy recipes).... green and orange fresh peppers, onions, mushrooms, corn, veggie meat crumbles, dices tomatoes, spices (cumin, oregano, chili pepper, salt, pepper, basil), a few tablespoons of chocolate powder, can of baked beans and simmer on stove top or leave in crock pot all day. Add some greens such as kale for some extra green nutrition! Maybe making cooking a family fun time could help introduce new foods into their diet without them even really realizing it! There are a lot of really yummy recipes on the internet to use.
Try this site for a few recipes http://www.moosewoodrestaurant.com/recipes_archive.html the 3d one down, the Quinoa Stuffed Peppers is really great and quinoa is very healthy and important especially for vegetarians because it is a grain which provides all the essential amino acids which are usually only found in meat. Good luck on your quest for food freedom!!!! I wish I could be more helpful!0 -
@ chicaandinista
that all sounds very confusing =/
i dont know how to use the stove / hob.
I have tryed explaining to them that i need different types of food. and i give them lists, but they always say they forget to order the stuff..
And i offer to do the shopping but they dont seem to like that idea at all..
And vegertarian wise.. 3 of us our vegertarians.. and me, my fiance and his dad are the meat eaters..
and because my fiances mum is the head of the house hold. and because her daughter is a little *** and is the most spoiled little **** in the world and will hit her mum if she doesnt get what she wants... the vegertarians always have the food choice!0
