So today I was supposed to run 8 miles to train for my half marathon (according to Hal Higdon). So I mapped it out on www.mapmyrun.com and came up with a run that said something like 8.39mi or something. Soooo...i go on my run with the imapmyrun app going on my iphone. I boot it around the hood and it was great! I get home and check my phone and it says 7.8mi. I was so mad! So then I round up the family and drive the same route and the car says over 15k! What the fudge?

Who would you believe? I really want to believe the car because I think I even ran extra than what I put in on MMR.

I don't know. I find my nike+ GPS app always measures short of my nike+ footpod measurement, mapmyrun is hard to implement for me, as part of my run route is through some woods on tracks that aren't shown. I tend to go with the foot pod measurement.

15 km is about 9 miles...runtrackr seems to be more accurate than the phone app.

The problem with the iphone app is that if it loses signal it doesn't log at all accurately, it assumes you cave cut a straight line between where it got lost and where it picks up, so if you do a whole run with weak signal it can be way out. I did a 6 or 7km walk the other day with it, and it only measured 4.2km (I know it's more like 6-7k as I run it often).

I have a little tachometer on my bike, This allows me to quite accurately measure the distance I actually jog, since with cars you have to make wide turns and all that which will add some meters along the way, And yes, if the tachometer on your car says 15 k that would be over 9 miles.
