Hi everyone! I just found out about My Fitness Pal and decided to try it after completely flaming out on another weight loss program that shall not be named. I'm 43, married 20 years, have a 9-year-old son that I homeschool and I struggle with a chronic illness that makes exercise very interesting, since I'm prone to pass out suddenly. I once fainted and flew off the end of the treadmill at my local YMCA so now I try to exercise at home. :-)
In high school I was extremely thin, about 115 pounds at 5'9". After I met my husband and fell in love, I quickly packed weight on until I weighed about 175 at our wedding. I stayed there, give or take a few pounds, until I became pregnant. I gained 30 pounds with the pregnancy and never took it off. (Thanks Double-Stuf Oreos and sleep deprivation). I've gained another 10 since starting medication. I honestly think I look okay. I'm tall and I seem to carry the excess weight well. When I'm getting weighed at the doctor's office, the nurse always puts the little bar at 150 and I have to tell her, "you might want to bump that up a bit."
I know this might sound like a humblebrag, but all it means is that my motivation for losing weight is my health rather than my appearance. I'm starting to have joint problems and my blood test numbers (blood sugar, triglycerides, cholesterol) are AWFUL. I want to be with my sweet family for as long as I can, and I'd like to be as healthy as I can, too. I'm willing to work hard at this, but I also crumble in the face of desserts. I hope public accountability will help me.
I look forward to sharing this journey with everyone! Here's hoping we can support each other along the way.
