I started my weight loss program on April 1st and found MFP on the 4th. I am doing very as of this morning I have lost 23 pounds using a low carb diet. My question for many of you is at what time did you hit your plateau. I want to prepare myself and see if I cannot increase my workout load to hopefully ease through it. I am averaging 4 pounds a week, but not including induction I am around 2 pounds a week. If you could just let me know what week you plateaud in.

I hit after about 5lbs! Which is about 1/3 of the way through for me

To get through it I changed a few things:

    1. I upped my calories (only by 70 a day mind you)
    2. I cut down on carbs
    3. I introduced more fresh food and less process foods and a lot of salad!
    4. I introduced a cheat day (every week)
    5. I changed my exercise regime

I have had several plateaus over the past 4 years, and for me it hits when I get to a certain weight. The most recent plateau I have been struggling with has been going on for the past 4 months. I have lost and gained the same 5 pounds :(
Very frustrating!! Good luck and hopefully you never have to go through the plateau!!

I believe I have hit a wall. I started January 13th and have lost 33 pounds. For the last two weeks I have been playing with a 2 pound increase, a 1 pound loss. Moving around the same numbers and not seeing a steady decline as I had and you are. I am lightening my cardio, increasing my strength and I may try the Zig Zag Calorie plan.

    Best of Luck!

Unfortunately, they're random for everyone. You can tell when one is coming when weight loss starts slowing to a crawl. You can keep your metabolism working optimally with several methods.

Change up your workout timing and routine; i.e. including HIIT sessions in your cardio, switch up rest days, etc.

Increase your calorie intake by a bit. As you lose weight, your body may start holding onto energy stores to adjust to the weight loss, so by increasing your intake, it lets the body know that it doesn't need to hold onto anything since there's a surplus coming in.

Alternatively, you can cycle/zig-zag calories to keep your metabolism guessing.

Just pay attention to how your body is adjusting to everything. If you feel that your workouts are becoming less intense, increase the intensity. If you're becoming frequently hungrier, eat more. That said, my first plateau happened after about 3 months when I first started my weight loss. It lasted for about a week. Then the stalls/fluctuation periods came and went within 2 months of each one, lasting longer than the last. Either way, when it happens, don't stop doing what you're doing.

I've actually just lost 1.6 pounds for the first time in about 5 months. I've tried all sorts and i've only recently REALLY focused on kicking back into it. The important thing is to just not lose motivation to lose weight. I made up my mind once and for all back in September that I was going to lose the weight so I just refuse to let what i've already lost go back on now. I tend to fluctuate up and down but i've pretty much kept what i've lost off. Just keep going because you'll hate yourself if you plateau and let it defeat you.
  • Thanks Ladies and special thanks to the 2 guys that answered. I always try to direct my questions to males( seeing how I am one) I know there are a lot more ladies on here. No offense to the ladies, I appreciate and evaluate all responses individiually. Hey anubis what is "HIT" I am i the obese stage still, but I have a fair cardio capability. Do you think it i ssomething I could handle?
