    Yes, a lot of foods are mostly water. But nothing flushes toxins quite like good ole plain water. You could go a long time without food. You can't go very long at all without water. And 8 cups is indeed the minimum. You'll get even better results if you add a few more glasses on top of that. Some good tips are either half your body weight in ounces of water or an extra 8 ounces for every 25 lbs you want to lose. Keep drinking that water. And other beverages, including flavored water, don't count.

    I usually drink 100+ ounces of water a day. And usually before 6pm. It actually is really easy and helps to prevent snacking!

    Good question. There really is no scientific evidence to support the 8 cups a day rule.

    "If you drink enough fluid so that you rarely feel thirsty and produce 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) or more of colorless or slightly yellow urine a day, your fluid intake is probably adequate." (copied from a Mayo Clinic artice: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283)
