Hi~

I'm doing my second 5K this coming Saturday and am wondering if someone can give me some advice on how to train this week?

Yesterday I ran 5K on the treadmill and today I did 40 minutes of lifting both arms/legs and then 35 minutes on elliptical. I usually do spin class on Tues/Thursday.

I was thinking of running 5K once this week either tomorrow or Wednesday? Should I run more than once?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

i recently have been running them. I try to run 3 miles one day the other days i concentrate on doing a little hills or something - never know what route some 5k will take you. I rest at least the day prior. I find that if I do I usually do better. last week i had a 5k. I ran 3 miles on monday, did eliptical tuesday, lifted arms wednesday and thrusday i did 2 miles a little faster than i normally do. friday i took off. saturdays my 5k was my personal best/

    good luck!

Just make sure you take off the day before. It wouldn't hurt to run 3-4 miles on Wed or Thur and some strength in there as well, but do take that day of rest before the big race. You will be happy you did!

Good luck! I love racing, I'm not fast, but it's a total rush!

I always find race day easier because the energy of the other races helps push you along! Just train this week like you normally would and have a fun race day! Savour every moment!

    Best of luck lady!!!!

Well, I'm not sure how much you run, how long you've been running, or your conditioning ... BUT ... I'd take Thurs/Friday off from anything strenuous outside some yoga or stretching ...

Without knowing your running history, I'd generally recommend you run Monday and Wednesday, and rest Thurs/Friday ...

    Thanks for the advice!!!

I've been seriously training for this 5K since about February. I did a "Learn to Run" program through work and that helped. I've only been running since I started training...the longest I've run is about 3.5 miles.

My goal for Saturday is to run the 5K without stopping to walk. I did a 5K last weekend with a time of 36:20, but I had to stop and walk a few times.

That is an awesome first time run, and a great goal ... pace yourself and I bet you can do it. But either case be proud of what you've accomplished, it's a lot! =) ... remember, you're in it for your health, don't let the energy get you off your game, you run your pace (push yourself to jog as much as you can) and remember at this point, most of the walls are in your head :) ...

Enjoy yourself, love to see new runners as I've only been running for about a year now but it's been incredible! =)
