To eat or not to eat? That is the question...

Alright so...
Eating Fruits & Veggies = Good!
Eating Fats & Sugars = Okay in moderation depending on who you talk to

But, if the only way you get your veggies are if they're dunked in ranch or drowned in cheese, or the only way you eat your fruit is with peanutbutter or chocolate, is that better than not having the fruit/veggie at all?

Thoughts?

(and yes I understand that it is best to have the Fruit & Veg without all the delicious fats/Sugars on it...)

  • I guess you have to take into account how active you are and what your goals are. Personally whether I cut or bulk I love veggies and fruits as is with nothing else on 'em (probably in the minority on that).

IMO, yes, still better to get them even if you need to dress them up a bit. Obviously, limit it as much as possible, and choose the healthiest way to dress them up (ie lemon juice or olive oil & vinegar)... But if for now you need to disguise them a bit, do it. As long as you get the nutrients from the good stuff, and don't go over goals on the bad stuff, find whatever way YOU can make a habit.

I say yes, even if you have to eat them with the extra stuff it's still worth it for the vitamins and fiber as long as you can fit the calories into your calorie allowance. Maybe if you slowly try to make your extras healthier eventually you can wean yourself off of them (switch from regular ranch to light ranch, or ranch you make with fat free yogurt)

I love naked fruit and veg too! In fact, I always have done, ever since childhood. I suppose it's what we're used to though, isn't it? I cannot conceive of a diet which isn't high in F&V, yet some people seem to get along OK with only the barest minimum!

Agreed! Learn to love them for themselves, and not their dressings - you may be surprised at how good they are, and how good they make you feel!
