For the past two days my left leg has been feeling weird, kind of like it is shorter than my right leg. :indifferent: I'm not even kidding. It hurts when I walk and I have been walking with a limp almost. When I jogged this afternoon it didn't hurt or anything but when i'm walking it feels really weird and hurts a little.

Is this normal for a jogger? Do I just need to go in to a chiropractor and get re-adjusted?

wierd being only walking effects this and not running. You may have a sacroiliac joint alignment issue. It's normal for women who have given birth to have this problem and also someone who may have fallen on their butt bone. Chiropractor may not be a bad idea as long as they are a good one.

How long have you been running? I mean have you recently started again? Do you have noticeable differences in the arches of your feet? Wearing good shoes with optimal arch support and heel cushion? Did you recently change your running environment or do you run on a track?

I ask alot of questions to try and get to the root of the problem

Not at all, have you husband inspect the back of you pelvis/hips. At the top of each hip bone on the back is a sharp bone that usually protrudes (not for us on the thick side), but it still should be able to be palpated. Have him align the tips of his thumbs on each bone (left hand on your left hip/his right hand on you right hip) and bring the index fingers around to the front of your hips (like he was dancing with you from behind NOT TO SOUND PERVERTED). He will be able to look at his thumbs and see if there is an alignment issue. This can be fixed if it is the problem by a lumbosacropelvic treatment plan by a chiropractor :noway: did I say that or a physical therapist.

i would go talk to your dr.... i think the excercise we do puts some strain on our bodies... i know since i have started running i have had issues with my hips too ... but mine is like the other way... if i sit or lie with my legs open too long it hurts to close them (i can imagine the comments im gonna get on this one:blushing: )

I remember reading about this. It may not be an alignment issue, but rather an issue with your muscles/tendons/ligaments. The issue comes down to this: When you run/jog, you spend less time putting pressure on each leg (even though it's more). When you walk, your leg goes through a less complete range of motion and a longer time on each leg, resulting in more time on a specific group of muscles. If you sprained, strained, or just plain overused anything, this is often a result. Your leg seems shorter, because you are guarding the injured/painful leg. I'll see if I can find the article. In the meantime, rest, ice if necessary, and possibly change your workout up.

    Hope this helps.

Actually now that you asked this and I think about it, it did start to happen after I wore these really hard flat flip flop shoes that have no arch at all. Do you think that did it? I started jogging a couple of months ago, on the treadmill, never outside.

Do you think the chiropractor is a good idea?

Well, if you think it may be coming from the shoes you may want to go first to you doctor and get a referral to a podiatrist so they can accurately assess you foot/ankle joints. If that is not the issue, yeah a good chiropractor should be able to straighten you out. Be sure to ask them for exercises though, otherwise they may try to fix you well enough to have you come back in a couple of months.

    Eww.

I suppose since I won't be in the gym for the entire month of September, my legs will be resting. I will focus on Yoga and core workouts for September! Thank You!!

I've had that in the past, my hips felt normal but i had this horrible ache in my leg that would not stop, usually happens when i walk alot, i asked my chiropractor when i was there for a regular adjustment and he said me hip was all messed up and couldn't believe that it was just from walking alot, he adjusted it and the pain was gone
  • omg i thought i was crazy! about a month ago i was having the same problem. I woke up one day and my leg hurt to walk or sit in certain positions. It also felt about an inch shorter than the other one. I took it easy the day before so i couldn't figure out what was wrong. Anyhow, after about 4 days or taking it SUPER easy it finally went away and i didn't feel lop-sided any longer!

When I tore my hip flexor (badly) it healed tighter than the other one. It took two months of PT to get back to normal. I know that feeling of one leg higher than the other...mine was about 1 inch off!

I hope you are able to get it figured out and heal quickly.
