Toning Plates?

A friend of mine was struggling to lose weight, so she's thinking about using toning plates (I think that's the name). It seems very expensive, but apparently you can lose 2 dress sizes in a month.
Personally, I don't buy it and think that there is nothing more satisfying than losing weight on your own.
