I am new here and I want to lose 20 lbs. My calorie total is over 3500. I will never lose weight if I eat that much! I checked my profile info to make sure I imputed the correct info. Am I doing something wrong????? Help "G"

Check you have not put that you want to gain weight instead of lose weight. That definitely doesn't sound right.

Welcome to the site, it's a great place. :)

I am pretty sure that MFP sets your calorie goal depending on your activity level throughout the day and how much weight you would like to loose per week. I put that I had a sedentary job and I wanted to loose 2 pounds per week and it gave me 1200 calories a day. Also, you might want to check out what your BMR is under the tools tab to see how many calories it takes your body to just function every day...hope this helps, you can also add me as a friend!

I also am trying to lose 20 lbs and it says I only have 1580 calorie allowance per day. You may have reversed the entry weight and the desired weight.
  • Also make sure enter Kilo's or Lbs and also the other stats like height etc :P made that mistake and it told me I had a BMI of 75% xD
  • My calorie goal is 1200 as well and I just don't think it's right. First of all, it's incredibly hard to only eat 1200 cal's a day and I honestly think by eating that little, my body will go into starvation mode but my worst scare is that if I'm only eating that many calories, I will gain it all back when I reach my ideal weight. What are your thoughts? I lost 60 lbs on Weight Watchers and kept it all off and Im sure I ate a lot more than 1200 calories....this is scaring me and I think that's why I haven't been logging my food for about 3 weeks now. I want to do a program that I don't have to pay for so someone suggested myfitnesspal but I'm not so convinced it will work long term.
