Hi all.

I registered for MFP a couple of months ago. I lost a bit, maybe 6lbs or so and then fell off the wagon after a works night out at a very nice Chinese.

I am back and six days in. This time I am feeling a bit more positive, but acutely aware that I am going to need some support. I know I have lost some weight, Wii Fit tells me so but I am not planning on formally tracking it in MFP until tomorrow.

Losing weight isn't something I can do alone - I have previously lost plenty of weight on WW and just put it all back on again. Then I lost weight using Diet Chef, then put it all back on again. This time has to be the last, I am fed up. Being six days in now, I am starting to think that I need to use some of the other facilities available to me, blogs, the forum etc and so here I am, looking for encouragement to help make this life changing journey easier. Perhaps in return, I can offer someone else the encouragement they need.

Anyway, thats enough for now. Back to work...

Just settle in, you will be in trouble if you don't see what you are doing as a Lifestyle Change. That means taking it slow, making little changes that will add up to BIG Change, slow wt loss that will mean Sustained wt loss and above all GREAT PHYSICAL HEALTH. Soo, as I said, settle in, choose an eating and exercise plan that you can LIVE with...Forget the extremes, all that will do is give you an immediate high, then leave you wondering why you did not reach your goals. The Best and Success to You.

I know how you feel, I have tried too many diets to count; losing the weight and putting it back on again. It is very frustrating but you can't give up. Don't say that this is the last time. Keep trying until you get it right! You are worth the effort. Your health depends on it! We can do this!

Hey, and welcome back. Something that I've found has made a massive difference to my motivation is setting specific goals, visualising what it will look like when I reach them, and read them EVERY day, every chance you get.

So for instance something like "By 4th July, I have lost 15lbs and am working out 5 times a week".

You need to make sure that you believe that you can do this, or you'll end up sabotaging your own weight loss. Set yourself 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, 12 month and overall goals, all following this same set of guidelines.

I personally have my goals written down on the Excel spreadsheet that I track my daily weight on, so that every morning when I put in my weight, I've got my goals staring me in the face and am reminded of them. Also, if you miss your goal, don't get discouraged - simply put in a new date to achieve the goal and carry on.

Once you've done that, MFP provides some wonderful tools for tracking your calories and keeping up your motivation. Exercise makes a huge difference as well to your overall health, and the combination of a healthy diet within your calorie goals and doing exercise regularly, no matter how small you start off.

The blogging can also be quite cathartic - you can say things on here that you wouldn't say to anyone but your closest friends and receive huge amounts of support, and it's definitely a great tool.

    Good luck!
    Steven
