Ouch! Really sharp pain in big muscle down front of thigh???

have just been doing 30 day shred (2nd round). I am starting off at Level 1 again - when I came to do the static lunges with bicep curls, I got really sharp, excruciating pains down the front of my thighs. Kind of up nearer the top of the thigh than the knee, and both times on the leg which is the one taking the weight (I guess the one going to the floor and doing the lunge). I haven't had the same pain on any other exercise other than the "butt kicks". I can do normal/side squats OK. The pain felt almost like something was about to go "spang".
I cycle and horse ride so thought my legs were relatively strong. Have done 30DS before with no problems.
Any ideas what might be causing this? Only exercise I've done different lately is that I played rounders for an hour last week,so lots of running which isn't something I ever normally do - my legs have been quite stiff from that but felt OK yesterday. I weigh around 144lbs and am 5ft6, if that helps!
Thanks if anyone has any advice.

Sounds like your IT band. It runs from the hip to the knee. The best stretch is to sit in a chair, grab your right ankle, and place it on your left knee. Kinda like the way dudes cross their legs when they don't want to crush their back-up singers. Slowly bend your torso down to stretch it out. Then switch legs. You can also do this with a tree, holding on to the tree and lowering your keister to the ground. Good luck!!0

When you say the front of your thigh, are you talking about your rectus femoris muscle? The quad muscle that runs down the front of your thigh? It attaches up on your hip, so I'm curious. You might've strained that muscle, which is easy to do. I would ice it and take it easy from exercise to give it some time to recover. You dont want to take the risk of rupturing it.0

Hi, yes I think it is the quad muscle but I wasn't 100% sure so didn't want to call it that if I was wrong. Have also noticed that my hamstring is also still sore but that's down towards the back of my knee.
Have spoken to someone here at work who is (for want of a better word) an instructor, who has worked in gyms and taken classes. She reckons it's a build up of lactic acid? from the running about, as my quads will be used to working one way to cycle and another way to horseride, but running is different again. She said it can take up to 10 days to flush out of the muscle. Haha, just in time to play rounders and start it all again!!!
Cycling in felt OK and I will stick on one of the Turbo Fire stretchy-type DVDs tonight I think.0 -

Yah, stretching is the best thing you can do. Just don't over-do it.Good luck!0 -
When it comes to pain, please see a doctor!!
So many times people ask for help on here & the people who answer them
Are both unqualified & incorrect....
When it is something to do with an injury if you are advised that it is one thing & it turns out to be another you have the potential to injury yourself quite seriously!0 -
