Hi All
Does any one else do Bikram Yoga? I am doing it once a week now, but have read differing views.
Some sites suggest losing approx 900 cals in a 90 min session, however others say its just water.
Does anyone have any advice on this? I also do spinning, zumba and weight training during the week.

I do bikrim yoga and zumba as well and i feel as though as long as you dont solely do bikrim yoga, your ok. Its working muscles you normally dont use, toning your body, and you feel refreshed after. sounds like a great workout to me0

I practice Bikram twice a week and love it. I also do advanced step, weight training and run, I at least walk my dog every day so I'm always moving. I know that how many calories you burn during hot yoga is definitely up for debate. Yes, I know I am losing a lot of water but generally class kicks my @ss! I used an online calculator that said for my height and weight I was burning about 1055 calories a class, I have a feeling that's kind of high so I log it as 700. It's definitely not all water, I know I am working hard and that I get my heart rate up. Many times after class I feel sore and ready to eat a nice, balanced meal and that tells me I worked hard and that my body wants me to fuel it. I think it is a great addition to your other workouts and more than the calorie burn, I love how I feel after class - happy, toned and proud of myself that I made it through something so challenging!0

I do Moksha yoga, pretty similar to Bikram (I think).
I'd say you definitely burn calories - I always push myself and my heart rate really gets going! I also drink a lot of water before, during and after my practice, so I never feel dehydrated.
Basically, I feel GREAT after every practice. In fact, I'm currently in the middle of an 8 day straight challenge - I've created a group in the Motivation and Support forum. Care to join me? :happy:0 -
I do really enjoy doing the class - i just hope that with the combinations of what i'm doing I see results.
The last two weeks I was off from work so made use of the gym and yoga centre by doing 10 mile bike ride (as i am planning a london to brighton ride which is 54 miles) 1 hour of zumba and then either a hot yoga or hot pilates class.
I noticed that i was always hungry and I think i over-indulged as we had parties and gatherings every weekend, meaning i gained weight as opposed to losing it. :-(0 -

I've never heard of Moksha yoga - can you explain a bit about what it's like?0 -
I do hot vansaya yoga and wear my HRM and usually burn between 300 and 350 calories for an hour.0
