SLEEP! I miss it!!! My eyes burn, body exhausted, but I can't shut down. (I'm a teacher, adn this might change in 17 days!!)

I know, cut caffiene, eat right, exercise, etc. Doing those...

Has anyone used other methods (other than Tylenol PM, Ambien, etc.)?

Desperate!

I tried everything in the book for 2 years before finally breaking down and being put on ambien. I tried exercising in the morning, exercising in the evening. Eating early dinner, eating late dinner. Hot baths, cold showers, massage, yoga, meditation - nothing worked for me, but some ideas for you :-) Good luck! :-)

I have had insomnia since I was 15, I can go 6 days with literally no sleep. I took prescription sleep aids and they didn't work, I took over the counter and am told I lost it on my fiancé and nearly fell out a window when I started sleep walking.

The only thing that has ever worked for me is Melatonin, it's the most incredible thing ever, super cheap and natural, saved me from losing my mind!

Exercise a lot! No caffeine after noon, and a nice relaxing bath before bed. Watch TV before bed with it on low, no lights on, and dont watch TV in the room where you sleep! Comfy sheets and pillows, comfy sleeping clothing. Ive had problems with this my whole life and when I have problems, these all help me out...

I have quite a few friends that use Halosync CD ..you sleep with ear buds in but it uses auditory responses to trick the brain into shutting itself down into Delta brain waves and puts you to sleep.. They swear by it. At least if you try this you wont have to put chemicals in your body. I have the sound bites if you want them send me your email and I will upload them to you. =0)

Look into guided imagery/relaxation techniques. You use a tape at first that talks through visualizing yourself somewhere calm, like lying on a beach at sunset. Eventually, you can do it on your own (without the tape). It helps your mind wind down (this is the biggest thing keeping you awake, it sounds like!) and your body relax.

I've done something like this for years. I don't do the beach, but my own personal fantasy relaxing place, or at least something to push out the stresses of the day. It actually works (and I've had chronic insomnia for years, ambien helped me fall asleep for a while but not lately, this often works almost as well)
