I just got a gym membership/ I went last night and I lifted as much as I could possibly lift, but today I don't feel even a little sore.... I'm using the leg curls, ab cruncher, etc, w at least 25 lbs of weights. Am I using the machines wrong or something? It's very frustrating... Plz help!

The good thing about machines, they are predefined movements so you cannot get them wrong.

Can I ask, were you lifting a lot of repetitions? Or were you balancing things out with good weight and good reps/sets? It may be you just don't have the right work-out program.

Also understand that DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) sometimes takes a few days to hit you. For myself I can work heavy on my chest and not feel it for 48 hours. And unfortunately due to lifting for many years I rarely get that tightness or soreness as have become accustom to things. Only when switching things up or taking periodic breaks do I feel it again. Are you also possibly in this category?

Do you have somebody to workout with? Personal Trainer that can put you on track? Are you working smartly? Working with Intensity? Was it difficult to lift the 25 lbs or was it really easy/ These all could be factors.

That happened to me the first time I worked out (and has happened every time since then). I didn't feel the burn that night or even the next day but the day after my workout my muscles were screaming at me! I heard the second day after a workout is the worst and in my case that's true!

I've always had a problem accepting that the statement "if it doesn't burn, it's not working" is FALSE. You may not feel soreness until tomorrow, or you may only be "conscious" of your muscles. Doing something and sticking with it is what matters. If your goal is to tone and build muscle, work with a weight you can handle, and do more reps and sets. I don't have any real training advice, but try working different muscles sets off and on as well (one day full work on lower body, another day abs, another day upper body). Hope this helps a bit :)

I do 25-50lbs and I do ten in a row - rest for 1min then do 10 in a row again - rest for 1 min and do 10 more ( 3 times ) the first time I did this - I woke up in tears from the soreness
  • Chances are either 1. You'll feel it tomorrow or 2. You'll need to do harder workouts..
