Hi, I don't know if anyone can help me, I have been going to the gym since before christmas and after a few weeks I noticed my shoulder ached - it goes into my shoulder blade I am able to rotate my whole arm without pain but find it sore to move my head. I had three weeks away from classes due to easter and children being holiday and it completely eased up - so I know it's a sporting injury because now I have started back it is aching again

I don't want to go to the doctor in fear he tells me to stop going but wondered if anyone had any ideas of shoulder supports or excercises they know to help with this.

Thanks x :flowerforyou: x

I feel your pain - literally!

I out off consulting anyone about my shoulder cos I didn't want to give up strength training. However, I finally went to the sports therapist at the gym who was wonderful. He did point out that the shoulder is a very complex joint, so it can be hard to diagnose what the problem is. One thing he did use with me which is amazing is muscle tape - it looks like a bright blue strip of plaster in a curved shape at the top of my arm, and is giving me interesting tan lines!

Its definitely worth consulting someone, but I'd opt for a sports trained person rather than your GP. (Where are you in the world?)

That's really helpful! There is a sports physio at the gym so I might go and inquire. I'm in Kent in the UK - What about you? xx

I'm in Belfast - yes a sports physio is definitely your best bet, and they will understand your need to keep training (and can offer alternatives if your shoulder needs a healing period)

Let me know how you get on!

I know you don't want to go to the doctor, but my advice is go.
My fiance is in therapy for his shoulder, and the therapist said once a muscle is damaged, your body will do everything possible to protect it and will prevent its use. His shoulder is extremely weak because his body prevented any use of the muscle, so now he has to build the strength back up. The therapy is painful for him.
My fiance slammed his shoulder into a wall last October while running away from a chainsaw-wielding maniac at a haunted house.
