Hi everyone,

Firstly hope you're all doing well with your goals :) keep up the hard work!

I've recently come back from a 3 week holiday in Australia and I think its safe to say that I now have a slight obsession with avocado's and macadamia nuts yum yum. Basically my question is....is it bad to eat avocado and macadamia's every day?

I am aware that macadamia nuts are one of the fattest (if not the fattest) nuts out there so I try to limit myself to 10 nuts a day. Do you think the high fat content will be effecting my weight loss?

I found myself eating half of an avocado the other day just on its own with a small sprinkle of salt and pepper! It was gorgeous! I'd say i'm consuming half an avocado a day and usually have it in a salad.

Any tips, advice or feedback is appreciated :)

I weigh my avocados. The most i eat in a day is 2 oz which is about 100 calories. They are a good fat and you need good fat in your diet. But I wouldn't eat 2 or 3 a day. I love them too! They are delicious plain or on eggs, salad, turkey sandwiches, etc. LOVE THEM!!!

As for macadamia nuts..just don't eat too many. I'm not sure the caloric count or the fat content but 10 a day does not sound bad. I eat almonds and try to limit myself on the days I eat them to 10 - 15 a day. But today I'm having avocado and peanut butter for my fat so not a nut day for me:)

    Hope that helps!

From what I have learned being an avocado addict myself, they are fattening but it is a good fat. In the summer I eat 1 a day with driend cranberries and pecans, walnuts, or almonds with a fat free raspberry vinagrette dressing. Absolutely love it!

As long as the calories are within your range, fat is NOT BAD for you! Your brain is 2/3 fat and your body needs it to function properly. Avocados and macadamias are high in calories, but if you moderate those then your body will definitely get some good use out of them. Go to it girl! : )

I recommend the movie Fat Head (on netflix instant play) for more info!

Thanks for your advice guys, really appreciate it. I think what I might start to do is alternate, eat half an avocado a day and then the next day have my 10 macadamia nuts.

Really liking the sound of that avocado recipe with the nuts and vinegrette!! Might have to try that bad boy out sometime.

    Thanks again guys :)

The local grocery had avocados 10/$10. They're small, about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of a "normal" avocado, and when I cut them up, they're about 1/2 - 2/3 of a cup.

So I have them with a meal every day. They are ripe and golden-yellow-green and soft and it's like eating natural ice cream. I just count them as part of my calories, and since I avoid most "fatty" things, I'm not too worried about any fat. Plus, as far as I know, the fat is not terrible to have, and having an avocado really keeps my appetite down for the next 4-5 hours.

As far as macadamia nuts, I share your passion, but I'm afraid I'm on a limited budget of what I can spend money on for food, and I can get 10 pounds of avocados for $10 or I can get a can of macadamias for $10, and I know what I'd rather spend my money on.

Truth be told, I'm no nutritionist, but from what I understand, it's mostly about total calories consumed. And then looking for foods that are natural and good for you. I've learned in the last month that simply not eating "processed" foods is one of the easiest ways to drop the weight. Since I'm not eating an avocado at every meal, I'm not too worried about being excessive. But then, I still have a long way to go.
  • I eat an avocado everyday and ALOT of nuts, but I also do not eat grain, bread, and or sugar. So the high fat content works well for me. I have lost 120 lbs so far, so it must be working! I have learned that you either have to count calories and fat or carbs and sugar. One or the other- when you count carbs and sugar, you can have cheese, oil, butter, avocados, nuts, etc etc, but if you are eating the grains / carbs and sugar- it is not good to do everyday.
