I'm downloading p90x as we speak, I'm currently doing 30 day shred (only on day 3) but I was wondering which one would be better? Also I'm wondering, the whole p90x thing, should I wait and do that when I've lost all the weight? I DO NOT want to get in any way bulky, at all, I don't want muscles to show, I want very thin legs/arms, I know women do not get bulky easy, but I do not wanna get bigger in anyway, even if its just a little. So If i do it now will it work? I'm 5ft7/8 and currently 139lb wanting to get down to 115-120lb (more 115lb so I have space to fluctuate- I am a student! haha) Should I wait? or do it now? You hear all thi stuff that there is no point 'toning' fat. I don't have a lot of fat, but i want completely flat abs!

Here's the point....with P90X you are building your muscle strength up, which will consume more fat, faster....you will be fine if you just go for the P90X, it helped me kick my plateau and I felt so much better when I did it!

I did P90X and loved it! I did do the shred though... I didn't get bulky with the P90X, however I got a ton of definition and lost weight and felt amazing... On the second round of P90X (I completed the first 90 days and was going to go for another 90 days and was beginning the second week) I tore the labrum in my shoulder doing wide decline push ups. I have very loose/unstable joints from my flexibility from yoga and pilates, dance, etc. So, be wary since you are doing a lot of repetitive movements. My PT said it was a very common injury from this program.

P90X is designed to eith build muscle or tone your body. There are a couple of diff ways to do it as well as rep count. I love it. I just finished my 3rd time. No time like the present!

Toning is just a frou frou term for building muscle (through exercise) and losing fat (through diet/exercise). You develop muscle really slowly so if you started to notice muscles you could stop. The insanity workouts would probably work better than p90x because I think for p90x you need to have certain equipment. Insanity uses just bodyweight in their exercises. I've been lifting weights five times a week for the past two months while being on a calorie deficit and I only see muscle tone at all (there is barely any LOL) if I flex reeeally hard. It doesn't show on a regular basis. I'm not trying to get bigger in any way, but I've noticed that my legs have actually been getting quite a bit smaller since I transitioned to weights from cardio (although I do both).

Doing P90X will help with weight loss. When you're toning muscles at the same time as doing cardio you're actually helping yourself lose the weight. Muscle burns fat. I haven't done P90X (I've done a few of the workouts here and there but never the whole schedule from beginning to end), but I know that it is a killer workout. Hope this helps.

Will it help me lose 20lb in the next 3 months!? I also do spin class 5 days a week and yoga 3 times a week and eat around 1200 cals a day. (thats not nET cals, thats actually what I put in my mouth, i do not eat back my exercise cals)

In general, women should not worry about getting bulky. They lack the chemistry to build substantial muscle. The femal body builders do that with years of dedicated heavy lifting and some additional chemical help.

If you do the P90X classic version as the program was designed you'll definitley tone your muscles and burn fat. In the end you'll have an athletic looking body. You won't have bulging muscles but toned ones. This mean you'll have a nice shape to your legs, shoulders and arms.

I was thinking of doing the lean version, as that has a lot more cardio for fat burning (just looking at the website and its what they suggest? )??

I am starting this again today. I have known gals that have done the lean program and look fantastic! They did not bulk up but have beautiful definition in their arms, legs, and abdomen. As one PP has stated a woman's body is not built to "bulk" up. Most female body builders take some form of testosterone (male hormone) to allow their bodies to gain so much muscle mass so I wouldn't worry about it. Do what feels right for you! But I definitely want to see some before and after pics =)

Be careful downloading programs. Now that the new laws are in place, it is a felony to pirate software from the internet and the internet providers can track who is downloading what. The program is only $120 - that is not much to pay for getting healthy.

People worried about bulking up are just making an excuse to put exercising off. You have to be a serious gym rat to bulk up.

    Good luck to all
