I just got a pair of Vibram five finger shoes. Anyone else use them for running? If so how long does it take to transition into them?

A long time. (Not that I've done it, but I'm transitioning to minimalist trainers and it's a slooow process)

I have walked in vivo barefoot but not run yet, or not without the extra insoles. Lovely shoes though, with indestructible soles!

I ran in mine hours after I got them. Granted it was just 2.5mi but I just wanted to see how they held up. It was amazing, but after wards my calves were a bit sore, so careful there. But the only problem I was concerned with was a blister on one of my toes.

I've not used them, but all the articles I've read all state take it easy.

Go slow because you are using muscles usually not used with the cushioning provided with normal running shoes.

Also be careful when running out on the streets as these will not protect you from sharp objects (the main reason I haven't bought a pair)

It depends. Everyone is different, some take longer than other. Error on the safe side and start slow. I started with just some 10o yard strides at first. Then maybe up to 10 minute jogs, but I got up to 30 minutes pretty quick. & in about 3.5 months about 5 miles. But it was a long time before I could run 2 days in a row.

Ok I have tried my shoes for 2 days in a row now. Yesterday I just wore them for 30 min while I did the eliptical. This was fine.
Today I wore them for 30 min on the eliptical and then ran in them for 1 mile. My lower calves are definately a little sore as are the muscles across the top of my feet.

These will take a while to build up to my long runs, but I can tell they are going to be great.

    Here's to strong feet.
