i was riding 20 miles a day at between 22 mph and 25 mph. my legs never got tired, i could have done more if i wanted, sometimes i went 25 miles. i took 2 days off from that and now the passed 3 days when i go to do it i can barely make it to mile 2 or 3 without my legs hurting. why?

    Cortx,

I am experiencing the same thing. 6 weeks ago, when I first started, I had a mostly sedentary lifestyle. I have increasingly been able to go longer and faster at a higher level on the exercise bike. 3 weeks ago, I was able to go 18 miles in 50 minutes on level 10-12, using the "random hill" program. The past week and a half it takes me a full 60 minutes to go the 18 miles, however I can only only go on level 4-6 and it still KILLS my legs. I work out 5 days a week (3 with a personal trainer and then do cardio afterward, and 2 days a week strictly cardio). My girlfriend that works out with me every step of the way is having the same problem. Her pain is on the inside lower part of her shins (and I wonder if it is shin splints?) and the pain I am experiencing is in my thighs and butt. I am open to any advice. I have tried to change it up and tried the stair stepper but it kills my knees and the treadmill is killing my ankles. I think I need to shed 20 pounds before I can comfortably try to use those again.

As a side note, we are sweating our butts off, so I know we are doing something right. However, our weight is not coming off (ugh!), we are still at the same weight plus or minus a pound some days as when we started. Good news though, I have lost 10" and she has lost 14", and both of our BMI percentages have gone done about 6%. We are just getting frustrated about no weight loss whatsoever, even one pound off and staying off would be more encouraging.
