well after all the posts recently about eating your exercise cals I gave it a go, put on weight but lost inches very strange!
How's that explained?
I'll go back to eating non or a third of the calories and see how that works!
Do feel some what disheartened though

You lost inches and that's what matters. I used to be worried about the number on the scale but now I don't even have one. I now go by the size of pants I'm wearing and how my clothes fit.
It can be scary to see the numbers go up, but remember that muscle weighs more than fat and that you have lost inches, that means your body is shrinking.

It isn't so much the calories that you need to eat back as it is the nutrients. So if you eat the calories back in unhealthy ways that won't work. Good luck and great progress so far!0

becareful that those inches arent just water bloat. i know i can weigh roughly the same and gain and lose 1-2 inches around the waste on different days of week.
plus unless you are a noob or very obese there is no way you can gain muscle while being on a calorie deficit. even at that...after a few months that stops. plus more muscle would add inches too. but if you are a female too..the most you'd gain in muscle weight even if...EVEN IF..you were lifting and trying to put on muscle you'd gain maybe 1 lb a month of muscle.0 -
I would say, as I say a lot, that I trialled eating back all my exercise calories over a three week period. I gained back both weight and inches. Yikes. I have now gone back to working at a bigger deficit, albeit still eating a minimum of 1300 calories a day and making those calories as healthy as possible, and the weight is dropping off again. Everyone is different and everyone's bodies react differently. I just know now that mine needs to be pushed further to shed weight, so that's my strategy from now on in0

After starting to use the mfp app I decided to sign up for the program here at my work. They will give me a $250 giftcard to lose weight. The coach that was assigned to me told me that on the days I don't exercise to consume only 1200 calories and on the days I exercise to only consume 1400 calories. So even if I burn 500 calories, I'm supposed to only eat back 200 of them and that's it. All I know is that when I was eating back my calories I wasn't losing and now that I've stopped I'm losing again. Do what works for you.

you lost inches. but gained weight
thats has to do with the muscle. and its okay to gain weight on muscle just as long its not fat.
other than that. you shouldnt feel dishearted. you should be happy that you lost inches. that what gets you into smaller size pants not the weight. the weight helps you keep your BMI low but if you are doing it the right way.
the weight will drop.
oh and i forgot to ask. are you watching your sodium intakes? that will help. keep it 1500 mg you will do just fine. keep it up0 -
I know the gain could be a number of things and I shouldn't worry, I have always been a scales watcher and I need to change my mind set!
I can't say I pay too much attention to sodium but I shall from now on, Unfortunatly I love a bit of salt on my dinner, need to cut it down!
Jen thanks for that info maybe I'll try that out, I have an appointment at the gym Sunday to update my programme I'll speak with the trainer and see what she can add!
Onwards and up wards!!0
