What is cool whip?

Hi! I'm from the UK and have seen people talking about cool whip. Can you please explain what this is and what alternative I could use as this seems to be an American product that I've never seen in any UK supermarkets!

its like whipped cream.. but i think its non diary.. it comes in a tub not a can... i dont like it.. its very oily and artificial .

It's similar to Dream Whip (Canada). I think it's Dream Topping (?) in the UK
