I just posted on another thread about this new-to-me restaurant but I wanted to share again about it.

The reason being is that not only does El Pollo Loco have healthy choices but they have their nutritional information posted ON THE WALL! Right beside the door for anyone to check! AND, their website is extremely user friendly as well with ALL NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION readily posted and easy to find.

For those who have tried to find info from other restaurants to no avail, you know how great it is to have a restaurant be so open with their information.

I discovered El Pollo Loco when we had to go to Va. Beach last week, and my hubby wanted to check it out as someone had recommended it to us. I was hesitant because of fast-food calories but told him we'd go, he could eat, and I would get something some place else.

I was extremely happy to see their healthy choices! Apparently, they have teamed with something called "Lindora Lean for Life" to offer good healthy choice foods.

Anyway, I had their boneless skinless chicken breast with rice and steamed vegis. It was a decent size chicken breast, too--not one of those paper thin things!

THE WHOLE MEAL (!) was 270 calories, 10 grams fat, and 12 grams carbs! WOW! And it was very good as well--great taste.

Anyway, I had the boneless skinless chicken breast meal that comes with steamed vegis and rice, and it was great! And low-cal, too!

If you get the chicken breast only, then it's only 179 calories and 4 fat grams.

Of course, as with any restaurant food, it's high on sodium (for me) but still not too bad--564 grams for the chicken alone.

They also have a Chicken soup I'd like to try next time I'm in the "big city."

Anyway, I wanted to share about this place because it's rare to find a restaurant that seems determined to offer healthy choices AND who are very open about their nutritional info!

I've sent them an email saying thanks for that, too.

Here's the info from their website--

El Pollo Loco’s Skinless Breast Meal features a skinless, flame-grilled chicken breast with fresh steamed vegetables, garden salad and freshly prepared salsa. The complete meal contains only 270 calories, 10 grams of fat and 12 grams of carbohydrates.

El Pollo Loco’s Chicken Tortilla Soup combines plenty of El Pollo Loco’s signature flame-grilled chicken in a delicious chicken broth with sliced carrots, celery and roasted corn. It is topped with fresh cilantro and Cotija cheese for a truly authentic experience. A 10 oz. serving has only 140 calories, 6 grams of fat and 8 grams of carbohydrates.

I was in Torrence CA for a week and discovered the Pollo Loco down the block from my hotel. There must be an addictive chemical in their chicken because I found myself going back night after night. It's not expensive as fast food goes and it's way better than the burger joints.

Another place I wish we had is Del Taco.

 Reminds me of the scene in "So I Married an Axe Murderer"

Stuart Mackenzie: Oh, I hated the Colonel with his wee *beady* eyes, and that smug look on his face. "Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken! Ohhhhh!"

Charlie Mackenzie: Dad, how can you hate "The Colonel"?

Stuart Mackenzie: Because he puts an addictive chemical in his chicken that makes ya crave it fortnightly, smart***!

I love El Pollo Loco too. I never miss a week. I always get the Skinless Breast Meal. I ditch the salad dressing & go to the Salsa Bar and put Cilantro and Salsa over my salad and veggies. Yum! (dang, I wish I didn't already have lunch plans today).

You won't be disapointed with the chicken tortilla soup. It rocks!

There are many of these here, but none is really convenient. I'll stop whining about having to drive a few miles.

    Dont forget the Pentavirate.....

Stuart Mackenzie: Well, it's a well known fact, Sonny Jim, that there's a secret society of the five wealthiest people in the world, known as The Pentavirate, who run everything in the world, including the newspapers, and meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows.
Tony Giardino: So who's in this Pentavirate?
Stuart Mackenzie: The Queen, The Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothschilds, *and* Colonel Sanders before he went tits up. Oh, I hated the Colonel with is wee *beady* eyes, and that smug look on his face. "Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken! Ohhhhh!"

    Great movie!

Back OT, there is something about their chicken that is addictive. My (ex)wife and and i had one near our old house and we ate there regularly - so good! 8 years later, they have opened one 3 miles from my house - I think I'm going tonight.....

    Cheers.....Mike

Don't let the Pentavirate hear you---you'll be on their "list"

It was an obscure reference to the movie. I went on vacation and found a place with a big sign that says, "The Meadows" but there are no buildings, park benches or anything and it's not a subdivision. Just a big nicely mowed field and the sign.

    I took a picture.
