Running shoes?

I'm going to buy some running shoes this weekend, since my goal is to start c25k on Monday. I'm just over 300lbs right now, and up to this point my life has been pretty sedentary. I need some shoes that will provide good ankle support, and provide enough cusion to avoid jarring my joints too badly. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I'm in Canada, so I'll have to be able to find them here, of course.

I love my Asics - they have "stability" control and cushioning for us "heavier" runners. I have now completed 4 5k's and am working towards a 10k and I have used Asics the whole time.... I actually buy 2 pair at once so I can rotate them :)

You really need to go to a Running Store and be properly fitted. I made the mistake of not doing that and ended up with a hurt back after I finished my 1/2 marathon. I went last week and found out I had the incorrect shoes, I needed a neutral shoe.

I would go to the local running store in your community and purchase shoes there. The people who work there will watch you walk, determine the best kind of shoe for your gait, and get you fitted properly. It's well worth the trip. Plus local running stores often have information about groups to run with, upcoming events, etc. that help make running more fun, especially for beginners!

Runners World has a running shoe finder on the front page.
