I was at work doing nothing to kill time before dinner and was on MSN and came accross the 20 saltiest foods in America. Topping the list???Ramono's Macaroni Grill Chicken Portobello at 7,300 mg sodium 1,020 calories, and 66 g fat!!!! If you want to see the whole list as well as the 20 worst foods in america(outback has the number one I think) got to MSN and search the 20 saltiest foods in america and click on the link. The source was mens health so maybe it is there too!!!! It is SCARY!!!!! They even have the worst "healthy food" YIKES Makes tyou NEVER EVER wanna go out to eat!!!!

I am just learning about sodium...hm and i thought i knew everything..
It amazes me that all the boxed stuff I USED to buy is loaded, i mean loaded with the stuff.
My friend and i go to this 'healthy' restaurant. All meals and apps are 475 calories. It tastes devine. For the heck of it I asked the waitress what the sodium was on my cedar plank grilled wild salmon, roasted carrots and red potatoes. She came back and said the cook will remove the salt, but didnt know the answer . The food was bland. I thought my buddy was going to hit me. she felt like we finally found a place i could be happy, as I am not so easy to please in the food dept lately.
My point is...ask the server. They can almost always make it a bit different to remove salt, sugar, alcohol. Then you can add your own salt.0 -
to reply to arewethereyet regarding the sodium in boxed stuff. I live by one very important rule.... If it comes in a jar, can, or box, it probably has a high sodium content. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, but not many in this case. I follow a low sodium diet, due to a very bad problem with fluid retension in my feet. Funny thing with sodium in prepared foods that say they are low in sodium, they often times are higher in fat, to sort of compensate if you will for the bland taste of many low sodium foods. Check out the nutrition labels of a lower sodium snack cracker, and the label of the same product not claiming to be low in sodium After you have cut back on sodium for a while, you don't miss it. If I take a couple of bites of regular potatoe chips, for example, they just taste way to salty! Lower sodium intake also helps those with problems regarding PMS.0
