I've seen a lot of posts with recipes using slow cookers. What brand is your cooker and would you recommend it? What's your favorite recipe too?

I use my slow cooker all the time...last night I wrapped some sweet potatoes in foil and just set them in there on high for 4 hours and they were nice and mushy when I got home. (8 hours on low) No water or butter needed and they turned out great! I also make chilis and even stick chicken in there with and can of cream of chicken and a can of cream of mushroom then sprinkle a little bit of cheese on top. You can also make roasts and add some veggies...YUM! Do an internet search and you'll find that pretty much anything you do on the stove or in the oven can be done in a crock pot and I love that I can throw it all together in the morning and have it done by the time I get home!

I have a Hamilton Beach Stay or Go!

YES!! They are sooo Yummy! All You have to do is wash and scrub them, prick them with a fork all over, wrap them in foil and let them sit! So easy and they turn out sooo yummy and squishy! I actually learned this yesterday from my mother and had to try it! Foil isn't safe in the microwave but is totally safe in a slow cooker. It has the safe effect on foil as the oven does.

I also have a Hamilton, works great.

I love 3 Bean Crock-pot Chili (found at skinnyrecipies.com), spaghetti sauce, chicken, pot roast, there is a really good Mexican casserole that I make in mine too. I LOVE it.

Slow cookers are great! If you're buying one try to get one that has a removeable pot- it makes it a lot easier to clean. Also, a timer could be helpful. I like to make pulled pork in it. Just buy some pork shoulder (or other lean cut of pork), throw it in the slow cooker, add some barbeque sauce (whatever you like) and some sliced onion if you like. Cook it on low all day and after about 8 hours you'll have really tender shredded pork. Fish out the bones and you're good to go!

yes to the removable pot. makes things way easier
pulled pork is great in the slow cooker. probably my favorite, but the slow cooker is pretty much limitless in the things you can make in it.
turn it on in the morning and when you come home from work the food is ready to go.
i believe mine is a Hamilton. it was actually pretty inexpensive and has definitely paid for itself.

Great feedback. It sounds like most of you have a Hamilton. I'll try and find one ASAP. Thanks for your help!

I love mine. I have a hamilton beach that has three different sizes of interchangable crocks, so it fits whatever I want to make.

I make a lot of soup in mine. Canned soup has so much sodium and so I can control it a lot more if I make it myself.

    I also make roasts alot.

I have the fix it and forget it light cookbook and there are a lot of great recipes in it.

I like adding a couple of chicken breasts (boneless) and cook for a while. You can shred on the last hr or so and add some salsa. It makes great meat for tacos! Soooo easy too.

French dips- take a beef roast- any kind. Cook all day add a little soy/water. Cook until you can shred it in the pot. Take french bread buns and toast them in the broiler with margarine or whatever you like until browned. Add some of the drained meat and top with swiss cheese. Return to broiler until melted.

Roast- just add to crockpot with a little lipton onion mix or whatever you like and cook on high. Can add carrots, potatoes, and celery about 1/2 way. I love that you don't have to watch the meat, it comes out tender everytime, and it's so easy.

Yes, get one that you can take out the middle if you can. I usually soak over night and put it in the dishwasher.
